nou Systems is pleased to announce the opening for a Chief People Officer who will join our Business Operations team in Huntsville, AL and become part of our rapidly growing technology company operating in missile defense, cybersecurity, test range modernization, biotechnology, and space control marketspaces. The Chief People Officer (CPO) is an executive-level leader responsible for designing and executing a comprehensive, forward-thinking human capital strategy. Leveraging deep expertise in organizational development, learning and development, coaching, and data-driven talent initiatives, the CPO will champion a culture of innovation, engagement, and high performance. This role blends people strategy with technology, AI tools, and change leadership to align workforce capabilities with organizational goals. The CPO will consult with executive leadership to drive sustainable growth, core value alignment, and leadership excellence across the enterprise.

Responsibilities:

  • Strategic HR Leadership
    1. Partner with the CEO and executive team to shape and execute enterprise-wide people strategy.
    2. Serve as a key advisor on organizational effectiveness, talent strategy, culture transformation, and leadership development.
    3. Lead efforts to future-proof the organization through data-informed workforce planning, succession, and capability building.
  • Organizational & Leadership Development
    1. Oversee design and delivery of Learning and Development programs grounded in adult learning principles and evidence-based practices.
    2. Champion leadership pipeline development, succession planning, and coaching for emerging and senior leaders.
    3. Utilize assessments to enhance leadership effectiveness, team performance, and workplace culture.
  • Change Management & Culture Transformation
    1. Lead large-scale change initiatives, applying change management methodologies to build adaptability and organizational resilience.
    2. Consult with executive stakeholders to assess organizational health, lead culture change, and align systems with values and strategy.
  • Talent Acquisition & Technology-Enabled HR
    1. Oversee modern, AI-enabled recruiting and onboarding strategies aligned with future workforce needs.
    2. Leverage analytics, automation, and tech platforms to streamline HR processes and inform strategic decisions.
    3. Drive continuous improvement in recruitment, retention, and employee experience using data from engagement and skill gap analyses.
  • Employee Engagement & Performance
    1. Implement strategies to increase engagement and retention across all employee levels.
    2. Monitor and refine performance management systems to ensure alignment, accountability, and recognition.
    3. Lead team development initiatives to boost collaboration, cohesion, and conflict resolution.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Business, or a related field
  • 15+ years of progressive experience in HR or Organizational Development experience
  • Coaching certification or substantial coaching experience
  • Experience with behavioral and communication assessments (e.g., DiSC, 5 Behaviors, 360 Feedback, MBTI, TKI)
  • You must be a U.S. citizen to be eligible for this position

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree preferred
  • HR certification (e.g., SHRM-SCP or SPHR) preferred
  • Certified Change Practitioner (e.g., Prosci) is highly desirable
