Position: Lecturer and Princeton Arts Fellow

Description:

The Lewis Center is designed to put the creative and performing arts at the heart of the Princeton experience. This mission is based on the conviction that exposure to the arts helps us to make sense of our lives and the lives of our neighbors. We pursue this mission by bringing together a vibrant community of people with different backgrounds, experiences, perspectives, and artistic practices.Eligible applicants are early career composers, conductors, musicians, choreographers, visual artists, film makers, poets, novelists, playwrights, designers, directors and performance artists. We are committed to fostering an academic environment that acknowledges and encourages community. The successful candidate will pursue academic excellence in University settings.Fellowships are for two academic years, 2026-2027 and 2027-2028, with a $93,000 salary per year. Fellows are expected to teach one undergraduate course per semester, subject to approval by the Office of the Dean of the Faculty. In some cases, Fellows may take on an artistic assignment with students in lieu of a class. Prior teaching experience is not required.The work location for these positions is in-person on campus at Princeton University and Fellows are expected to be full and active members of our community, committed to frequent and engaged interactions with students. Samples can be submitted as links in a PDF.a.Creative Writing: Prose is limited to 3000 words. Poetry is limited to 20 pages. If both a prose writer and poet, submit up to 2000 words (prose) and up to 10 pages (poetry)b.Dance (choreography): 1-3 links to at least 15 minutes total of rehearsals, research, or performances. Must be continuous footage with cue points. Do not send trailers, photographs or promotional materials.c.Music: 1-2 scores and/or links to examples of performance (10 minutes total). Video is optional.d.Theater: Up to 15 pages writing sample and/or up to 10 design images (photos or renderings) and/or video/audio reel with cue points.e.Visual Arts: Up to 20 still images OR up to 10 minutes of video OR up to 10 still images and 5 minutes of video. Video can represent one work or excerpts; provide cue points if including links to longer works.Finalists are expected to attend the on-campus interview the week of December 8, 2025.The Princeton Arts Fellowship is a full-time Lecturer appointment at Princeton. Fellows may not hold concurrent teaching positions at other institutions for the duration of the Fellowship.The Fellowship cannot be used to fund work leading to a Ph.D. or any advanced degree. Holders of Ph.D. degrees from Princeton are not eligible to apply.Past recipients of the Hodder Fellowship and individuals who have had a sustained and continuous relationship with Princeton University are not eligible to apply. Expected Salary Range: $93,000


The University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's qualifications, work experience, education/training, key skills, market, collective bargaining agreements as applicable, and organizational considerations when extending an offer. The posted salary range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate for a full-time position; salaries for part-time positions are pro-rated accordingly.
