Admissions Reader



The Admissions Reader will be responsible for reviewing first-year undergraduate applications for the University of Pittsburgh – Pittsburgh campus. The ideal candidate will have a strong belief in the value of higher education, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to work both efficiently and accurately in a fast-paced environment. Readers must also be able to make independent decisions and maintain the highest levels of confidentiality regarding the admissions process, application materials, and applicants’ personal information.

Candidates should demonstrate sound judgment, a commitment to fairness, and the ability to thoughtfully evaluate a wide range of student experiences and backgrounds. This approach aligns with the University’s mission to enroll a well-rounded and representative student body through a holistic admissions review process.

This is a part-time, seasonal position with the option to work up to 37.5 hours per week during peak volume periods. The role is hybrid (remote and on-campus) and runs from September 22, 2025, to March 22, 2026. Reappointment is required annually.

Please note that certain individuals are not eligible for this position. This includes current college admissions professionals, high school counselors, independent college counseling consultants, and employees or volunteers at other undergraduate institutions. Additionally, individuals who are immediate family members of a current high school junior or senior are not eligible to apply.


Must be organized and detail oriented, must be able to work under pressure and manage a high volume of files. Quality and quantity are measured by established guidelines. Responsible for knowing and utilizing a variety of tools including, but not limited to PeopleSoft, Tableau, Perceptive Content, as well as all relevant University policies and procedures. During peak periods, overtime may be required with little or no advance notice.

The candidate will spend a majority of their time reviewing applications for admission. This includes, but is not limited to, reviewing academic records including Common Application, transcripts, letters of recommendation and essays, and standardized test scores. Incumbent will utilize established university guidelines to make autonomous decisions on admission applications for first-year undergraduate students. In consideration of the aforementioned duties, the incumbent must be adept at reading, analyzing, and synthesizing information from academic records. Experience with the Common Application is preferred. Applications are reviewed online. Candidates must have reliable internet access and access to a private, secure location in which to work.
