JOB DESCRIPTION:

Position Summary:

This position is responsible for leading the Dampers, Transmission and Steering Product Group businesses to ensure profitable growth. This entails developing strategic plans along with ensuring efficient implementation of tactical initiatives.

Essential Functions:

  • The Dampers, Transmission and Steering Product Group Leader is responsible for developing, obtaining executive approval and implementing the product strategy (STRAP), mid-term operating plan (MOP) and the annual operating plan (AOP) in order to achieve the product line growth and profitability targets.
  • Drive the approach and execution of market, competitive and customer analysis to be translated into strategic plan (STRAP) actions.
  • Achieve product group Profit & Loss (P&L) targets by partnering with finance colleagues.
  • Execution of product development programs to defined targets (cost, timing and product quality) according to the defined project management (PM) tools and Product Development and Commercialization (PDC) processes.
  • Partner with Global Purchasing Excellence (GPE) to drive supplier strategies, product sourcing decisions, product cost reductions and capital expenditures.
  • Achieve key product group operational metrics by partnering with Supply Chain Excellence (SCE), Quality & Product Safety (QPS) colleagues and plants to drive improvements in inventory, delivery performance, customer quality and warranty.
  • Develop a strong working relationship with counterparts at Knorr-Bremse, including supporting the development and implementation of worldwide product strategies.
  • Lead, develop and coach cross-functional teams and be a strong interface with external customers, business leadership, business development and sales teams.
  • Partner with key central functions to drive the execution of key business process improvement initiatives.

Knowledge:

  • In-depth knowledge of powertrain systems.
  • Technical knowledge of respective system components and impact on overall powertrain / vehicle performance.
  • Familiar with the design and manufacturing processes used to produce respective system components.
  • In-depth knowledge of strategic planning.
  • Knowledge in developing a business case and financial P&L elements.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience preferably in design engineering, manufacturing engineering, manufacturing, or technical sales.
  • Experience in lean manufacturing, design for six sigma and theory of constraints is a plus.
  • Experience in the heavy-duty truck, bus and/or automotive market is a plus.
  • Strong operational and/or product design experience including design for manufacturability, plant operations, product development processes.
  • Experience in product marketing and creating growth initiatives is a plus.
  • Experience in managing cross-functional organization in a matrix environment.
  • Experience in developing and managing budgets is required.
  • Experience in leading and developing a highly technical engineering focused team directly and indirectly.
  • Experience in customer contracts negotiations is a plus

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering thru an ABET accredited program required.
  • Master’s degree in engineering discipline preferred.
  • Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) desirable.

Travel:

  • Travel is 25-50%
