Position Summary
The Analytical Chemist position will provide direct support to DoD and USG sponsors over a capability area centered on CBRN related aspects of chemical defense and will be responsible for providing support for countering weapons of mass destruction (CWMD) research programs. Responsibilities will include laboratory support of projects focused on analytical method development and sample analysis, while directly collaborating with NSRI staff and other entities within the CWMD community. Primary place of duty will be Savage, MD. Secondary places of duty and travel requirements will be based directly on operational tempo and project needs.
Duties and Responsibilities
Operate and maintain analytical equipment including but not limited to GC/MS and LC/MS systems
Develop analytical methods for small molecule chemical analysis
Prepare laboratory and field samples for analysis
Analyze samples, interpret results and generate reports
Provide weekly project status updates to project lead
Collaborate directly with team members to develop and execute project plans, timelines, and strategies to facilitate successful completion of project goals
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biochemistry, or chemical engineering from an accredited university or college
1+ years experience with small molecule chemical analysis via GC/MS and LC/MS techniques
Experience with GC/MS and LC/MS method development
Excellent written and oral skills
Excellent organizations skills and record-keeping
Experienced in working as a part of a multi-functional team in chemical laboratory
This position requires the individual to be a U.S. citizen and must be able to obtain and maintain U.S. government security clearance eligibility.
Desired Qualifications
Experienced with analytical sample preparation techniques of field samples
Prior experience in CBRNE chemical analysis
Current DoD security clearance
