Laboratory Research Technician
The University of Pittsburgh’s Renal-Electrolyte Division is seeking a Laboratory Technician II position.
Minerals, such as sodium, potassium, and magnesium play a key role in maintaining health of the cardiovascular and musculoskeletal system. Our research group is actively exploring the effects of mineral imbalance upon blood pressure and bone health and how it is that kidneys regulate daily mineral balance in times of stress, such as during nutritional deficiency or during pregnancy and lactation. This position will involve biomedical wet laboratory research activities including work with animals, molecular biology, histology, computer-based analyses, measurement of biological metabolites, and western blotting.

Performs a variety of laboratory experiments and procedures. Prepares specimens. Oversees supply management. Operates and properly maintains equipment.
- Must handle research animals
- Will use Image J, BioRad Imaging Software, Graphpad Prism, Adobe applications, Excel
- Data will be presented weekly in laboratory meetings and may be presented at scientific conferences.
- Scheduling flexibility is required to meet the needs of research projects that may require attention outside of normal working hours.
Moderate physical effort required. May be required to stand/move for several hours at a time. May be required to move objects up to 50 pounds with or without assistance of equipment.
