Villanova University is organized in a semi-decentralized model; with College-based development officers supported by central services. The Major Gift Officer assigned to the M. Louise Fitzpatrick College of Nursing will represent Villanova University and the College of Nursing. Primary duties include establishing and managing effective relationships with varied donor prospects and existing annual and major donors. The Major Gift Officer, under the supervision of the Senior Director of Major Giving, College of Nursing, and in conjunction with the Assistant Vice President of Major Giving – Academics, will plan and implement multiple gift strategies in support of the priorities of the College using operating/work plans and stewardship plans; identify and qualify potential donors; design and implement successful cultivation and solicitation strategies. The Major Gift Officer will solicit prospects and identify and motivate those alumni, faculty, volunteers and friends who can advance the development function at the College of Nursing. The Major Gift Officer is expected to conduct an average of 12 prospect visits per month and manage a portfolio of 120 prospects per year. The Major Gift Officer will assume stewardship responsibilities for assigned prospects in conjunction with the Director of Stewardship and implement cultivation opportunities for all College of Nursing alumni, parents and identified friends.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Identify and manage a portfolio of at least 120 gift prospects which includes primarily individuals with specific affiliation and/or giving interest to the Fitzpatrick College of Nursing. Be a point of contact for Nursing alumni to engage in the life of the College; encourage participation in activities and evaluate potential for development involvement.
  • Establish and manage effective relationships with portfolio prospects and donors; plan and implement gift strategies using work and stewardship plans. Identify and evaluate potential donors from available research, peer screenings and event participation.
  • Conduct an average of 12 prospect visits monthly and assume stewardship responsibilities for assigned prospects.
  • Manage the young alumni board and associated activities and events for nursing (Fitzpatrick Alumni Board) and serve as staff liaison for the
    Alumni, Parents and Friends committee of the Board of Consultors.
  • Establish collaborative and productive relationships with the administration and faculty of the College of Nursing; become knowledgeable regarding the College’s priorities, programs, events, etc. in order to advance the interests of the College of Nursing and more fully engage alumni, parents and friends.
  • In conjunction with the Senior Director of Major Giving, College of Nursing assist in designing, coordinating and implementing development activities for Nursing alumni, parents and friends including, but not limited to, Annual Fund and Planned Giving.
  • Assist with special projects as assigned, including support and management of select events.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Two to three years’ experience in fundraising and alumni affairs desired, with direct personal solicitations preferred.
  • Proven successful experience in individual fund raising or alumni affairs required.
  • Commitment to higher education and a strong desire to associate with Villanova University and champion its mission required.
  • Understanding of the University culture and the process for decision making and program development required.
  • Ability and willingness to travel required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Comfort level working in a team-oriented environment required, but also must be disciplined and results-oriented.
  • Knowledge of general office equipment, including use of laptop computers, required.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Masters degree preferred.
Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours:
Ability to travel and work evenings and weekends required.
