SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The Field Marketing Manager will be responsible for planning and executing grassroots team sports events and partnerships for Shock Doctor, McDavid and Cutters. This includes budget tracking, asset development, vendor relations and on-site management for all team sports events, primarily youth and high school football and basketball events; and management of communication, product fulfillment and partnership deliverables for team and individual youth and high school athletes, including event participation, content and research. This role helps support the implementation of authentic voice and tone in brand marketing while interacting cross-functionally with the product development and go-to-market teams.
The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated passion for communicating with athletes and identifying trends, along with experience running events—including managing on-site staff. This role is key in influencing USB’s marketing strategy. And, of course, love of sports is a major plus.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Event Management
- Own year-round planning and execution of grassroots team sports events
- Leading up to events, manage communication with vendors and agency partners needed for successful planning and execution; report progress to key internal stakeholders
- Track budget for all events according to annual operating plan and report tracking to Director, Brand Marketing, Team Sports, and ensure timely processing of invoices and expenses related to events
- Collaborate with internal creative services team on developing assets and helping generate other elements needed to ensure authentic experience at event
- Manage internal staff and/or vendors and agency partner staff at events, ensuring alignment on expectations for responsibilities and timing
- Ensure stakeholders responsible for content and research goals at events are able to meet those goals, including but not limited to fulfillment of assets needed to conduct research, proper usage of products and attire, and activations with vendors and/or other event partners
- Identify and recommend grassroots team sports events opportunities that would be ideal for activating toward company’s key marketing objectives
- Identify best practices for event activation; monitor competitors’ event activations and field activities
- Maintain appropriate brand voice and asset deployment at events
Trade Shows
- Coordination & execution of trade and consumer shows
- Effectively communicate with event partners to complete an engaging and valuable activation
- Learn about products extensively and pitch to consumers from both a marketing and sales perspective
- Maintain and track trade show budget and communication processes
- Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, prioritizing to meet deadlines
Grassroots Team Support & Athlete Research
- Own year-round communication and product fulfillment for grassroots partner teams
- Ensure completion of contracted deliverables with partner teams, including but not limited to development and publication of social media content, participation at select events, providing research feedback as requested, and proper usage of products and attire
- Work with Director, Brand Marketing, Team Sports to ensure athlete research is authentically done and trackable; when requested, present research findings to internal stakeholders
- Identify and recommend grassroots teams that would be ideal for partnership opportunities toward company’s key marketing objectives
POSITION SPECIFICS:
- This is a full-time position
- Typical work hours and days are Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with schedule flexibility due to prevalence of events being held on weekends
- This position is based out of the Fountain Valley, CA office, but involves remote work for fulfillment of key responsibilities, especially events
- 20%-25% travel is expected for this position - Be comfortable with consistent travel, remote and in-person work. Ready to be on-the-go and immersed in sports culture
PAY TRANSPARENCY
- The Company is committed to fair, equitable, and transparent compensation. Final compensation will be determined by various factors such as your relevant work experience, education, certifications, skills, and geographic location.
- The salary range for this role in Fountain Valley, CA is $75,000 - $85,000.
- In addition, you may be eligible for additional compensation, such as a bonus. Employees may also be eligible for a wide range of other benefits, including health & wellness benefits, retirement, time off, employee discounts, and others.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- This position does not have any direct reports but does have leadership requirements and responsibilities, those being the management of staff for on-site events
REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent experience) preferred
- 3-5 years of marketing experience with expert understanding on events and football and basketball

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Candidate must be able to successfully perform the essential functions of this job with ability to: be in a stationary position 50% of the time; occasionally move about inside the office to access fine cabinets, office machinery (such as a calculator, copy machine, printer, etc.); constantly operate a computer; occasionally ascend/descend stairs; constantly position self to maintain files in file cabinets; the ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand; must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations; the ability to observe details at close range (within a few feed of the observer); and frequently move boxes weighing up to 25 pounds across office for various needs. Ability to work in outdoor weather conditions if projects/opportunities arise. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
