Purpose of the Role:

The Electrical Project Engineer is responsible for providing specialized technical expertise in the design, execution, supervision, and commissioning of electrical systems for infrastructure and operational projects. This role supports the planning, risk management, and compliance of projects while ensuring technical quality and operational efficiency. Additionally, the Electrical Project Engineer acts as a technical leader for electrical-related matters within multidisciplinary projects and can assume general Project Engineer responsibilities when required.

Activities:

  • Electrical Systems Design & Review
    • Review and validate electrical designs, technical specifications, and drawings (medium & low voltage, lighting, grounding, emergency systems, UPS, generators, M&E integration).
    • Supervise compliance with applicable codes, regulations and standards (NOM, NEC, NFPA, IEEE, etc.).
  • Project Planning & Execution Support
    • Support the development of technical scopes, schedules, and cost estimations for electrical works.
    • Manage electrical contractors, suppliers, and integrators to ensure quality and adherence to timelines.
    • Monitor project progress, controls costs, and reports deviations.
  • Technical Support & Compliance
    • Provide electrical expertise during implementations, commissioning, and operational readiness stages.
    • Conduct inspections, factory acceptance tests (FAT), site acceptance tests (SAT), and supervise electrical commissioning protocols.
  • Risk & Issue Management
    • Identify and mitigate electrical-specific risks (load capacity, protection, redundancy, safety hazards).
    • Support incident investigations and corrective actions.
  • Support in Business Case Analyses (BCA)
    • Provide technical inputs on electrical feasibility, estimated investment, lifecycle costs, and technical alternatives for project BCAs led by Project Managers.
  • General Project Engineer Backup
    • When required, assume general Project Engineer responsibilities for multidisciplinary projects (civil, mechanical, HVAC, infrastructure expansions) ensuring continuity in project management support.

  • Load analysis software (ETAP, SKM Power Tools, or similar — optional but valuable)
  • Project Management Methodologies (PMI, Prince 2, Escala, Agil, etc..)
  • Proficiency in electrical drawings, panel schedules, single-line diagrams
  • Cost estimation & budget control techniques.
  • Reporting and dashboarding (Excel, Power BI or equivalent)

· FAT, SAT, commissioning, and protection testing procedures

· Normative knowledge (NOM, NEC, NFPA, IEEE, IEC standards)

Educational Qualifications & Experience:

  • Degree: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electromechanical, or Mechatronic Engineering
  • Desirable Certifications: Electrical Safety Certification, PMP®, NFPA 70E, OSHA 30, Lean Six Sigma Yellow/Green Belt
  • Experience: 3-5 years in infrastructure project engineer roles or similar; preferably in logistics, manufacturing, or industrial sectors.
  • Language: Spanish (Native), English (upper intermediate level or B2 level european framework)
