Job Summary
The Administrative Business Officer provides high-level leadership and operational management for a complex research institute with over 300 staff and students supported by diverse funding sources, including grants, contracts, and university cost centers. This position oversees human resources operations, personnel budgeting, and payroll administration to ensure compliance with university policies and sponsored project regulations. Key responsibilities include managing position funding and salary distributions, reconciling payroll charges, administering the annual salary increase process, and producing reports that support informed decision-making by Institute leadership and Principal Investigators.
This role also provides strategic guidance and supervision to administrative staff, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement. The Administrative Business Officer sets expectations, monitors workload and performance, and ensures proper documentation of procedures and standards. With a strong emphasis on communication, coaching, and professional development, this position plays a critical role in maintaining operational efficiency and supporting the Institute’s broader research and administrative goals.
