Assist the Assistant Dean of Career Strategy and Advancement in the delivery of services of a comprehensive career services program for students and alumni of the law school. Provide instructions, orientation, and counseling to law students and alumni in career development and professional development matters. Provide career advising and counseling to students and alumni and create and deliver programming and materials on career and professional development matters, which may include, as determined by the needs of the Office of Career Strategy and Advancement and the Assistant Dean of Career Strategy and Advancement, the following: counseling students on all career paths, including private practice, public interest, government and judicial clerkship applications and process; establishing programs and procedures to enhance application process and participation by students; and/or planning, implementing, and facilitating career related programming for the Professional Development courses for 1L, 2L and 3L students.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide instructions, orientation, and individualized advising and counseling to law students and alumni in career development and professional development matters. Coach students to develop short- and long-term job seeking strategies and career plans. Provide individual advising and counseling to students.
- Plan and conduct programming on career and professional development matters, which may include, as determined by the needs of the Office of Career Strategy and Advancement and the Assistant Dean of Career Strategy and Advancement, the following: programming on private practice, public interest, government and judicial clerkship careers, including applications and process; establishing programs and procedures to enhance application process and participation by students; planning, implementing, and facilitating career related programming for the Professional Development courses for 1L, 2L and 3L students; coordinating with the Director of Public Service and Pro Bono Initiatives and the Faculty Public Interest Committee on the needs of the Access to Justice Fellows program and Public Interest Fellowship Program; and/or planning, implementing, and facilitating recruitment programs and job fairs.
- Prepare career and job search guidance materials, including resource guides, handbooks, and related materials for students.
- Assist in seeking ways to improve employment outcomes for all students. Represent the Law School to the legal employment community and at related bar association events and other conferences. Participate in employer outreach efforts, including outreach and cultivation of private practice, public interest, fellowship and government honors program opportunities for students. Keep current on employment trends and projections and avenues for enhancing job search techniques.
- Perform additional duties and assist with special projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Formal Education
- Bachelor’s Degree; JD required (experience with legal recruiting and/or career coaching and advising of law students or attorneys may be accepted in lieu of a JD)
Minimum Work Experience
- 2-3 years of professional experience in the legal profession (which may include legal work experience and/or legal recruiting experience)

- Student mentoring, counseling, and advising abilities, including approachability, interpersonal communication skills, and cultural competence.

- Close attention to detail and procedures.
- Ability to work effectively with technology, including MS Word, Power Point, calendar programs, e-mail, voice mail, etc.
- Strong interpersonal skills and collegiality with all relevant constituents (faculty / staff, employers, students, alumni, department colleagues).
- Ability to prioritize, multi-task, approach challenges with creativity, insight and resourcefulness.
- Willingness to travel and work during the evening.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in attorney hiring / recruitment strongly desired.
- Prior experience in counseling and mentoring preferred.
- Experience or training in marketing, sales, or equivalent fields (such as development / fundraising) relating to business development is a plus.
- Experience with Excel or comparable databases as well as 12Twenty software is desirable.
Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours:
This position requires occasional travel and work during the evenings.
