Job Description

Working in the Harvard Business School Development Office, the Development Assistant is responsible for performing a variety of complex administrative and project activities related to Development. This individual works on an interdependent team of support staff (Development Administration) within the larger Development group including Principal Gifts, Gift Opportunities, and Reunion Leadership Giving. The Development Assistant will report to the Director of Development Administration with additional reporting lines to 3-4 frontline fundraisers whom they support in all aspects of their day-to-day work. This role is responsible for other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent is required.
  • 3+ years of experience in administrative support role(s) and/or related experience is required.
  • Education beyond high school may count toward experience.
  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook) experience is a must.

  • Anticipates and resolves problems to effectively fulfill these responsibilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven customer service, interpersonal and organizational skills
  • High level of attention to detail, ability to work independently, and work effectively with interruptions to meet tight deadlines and respond quickly
  • Ability to interact appropriately across all organizational levels and with alumni and donors
  • Ability to manage confidential information appropriately with a high level of sensitivity and discretion
  • Ability to learn new software and databases
  • The ideal candidate will act as a leader amongst the greater Development Administration Team, set a positive example for staff across the team, demonstrate an inclination towards peer mentorship, and an impulse to improve processes
  • This individual has a desire to work as part of a team with an all-hands-on deck approach and maintains a “no job is too big or small” philosophy.
  • Familiarity with Advance Web or other Customer Relationship Management programs/reporting tools and a working knowledge of complex excel functions is a plus
  • Experience providing complex administrative support is a plus.

Working Conditions:

  • Occasional overtime may be required.
  • The ability to work during reunion weekend (2x/year) and during some designated University holidays is required.

  • Other Information: This is a hybrid position which we consider to be a combination of remote and onsite work at our Boston, MA based campus. Work Format Details

This is a position that is based at a Harvard campus location with some remote work options available. Additional details will be discussed during the interview process. All remote work must be performed within one of the Harvard Registered Payroll States, which currently includes Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Virginia, Washington, and California (CA for exempt positions only). Certain visa types and funding sources may limit work location. Individuals must meet work location sponsorship requirements prior to employment.
