The Thomas Lab in the Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine is recruiting a Research Assistant Professor in the appointment stream. The Thomas Lab investigates signaling pathways that integrate membrane traffic with the regulation of cellular proteostasis and the onset of disease, including obesity and autism. Our studies are grounded by our discovery of the PACS family of multi-functional sorting proteins and how recurrent mutations in PACS1 and PACS2 cause debilitating neurodevelopmental disorders: PACS1 syndrome and PACS2 syndrome. Currently, we are investigating how the PACS proteins regulate key deacetylases, including SIRT1 and HDAC6, and ion channels to control signaling pathways impacting metabolism, apoptosis, and autism, and we leverage these discoveries to develop targeted therapeutic strategies to combat these disorders. The incumbent will utilize cell and molecular biology techniques alongside electrophysiology, metabolomics, proteomics, and RNA-seq to investigate how de novo mutations in PACS1 and PACS2 disrupt proteostasis, neuronal metabolism, neurotransmission, and behavior. Successful candidates should have expertise in research methods necessary to complete these NIH-funded studies on PACS1 and PACS2 syndromes. Candidates must have a PhD in microbiology, neurobiology, or a related field. Apply at Home | Talent Center: Careers at Pitt | University of Pittsburgh to requisition #25003067.
