Job Description

Job Summary:

The Department of Health Policy and Management (HPM) is committed to training and inspiring the next generation of health care leaders. Our students and faculty are passionate about making the world a better place by improving health and health care. We work on compelling and important problems, from making the delivery of care safer and more efficient, to expanding health insurance coverage and eliminating disparities, to designing and improving the performance of entire health systems.

We are seeking a full-time RA to work under Assistant Professor Ari Ne'eman based in the Boston area beginning in May to support research work regarding health policy, with particular though not exclusive emphasis on people with disabilities. It is likely that the work will focus disproportionately on Medicaid policy change. The position is primarily in-person, with an option to telework up to 2 days a week. The position is anticipated to last at least twelve months, with the possibility of renewal. The successful candidate will be able to work autonomously, while performing high level statistical programming, data compilation and cleaning in addition to other research related duties.

Position Description:

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. Support and conduct quantitative analyses of administrative and survey data using statistical programming languages (i.e.: Stata and R), including data cleaning and assessments of data quality
  2. Perform logical and thorough literature searches
  3. Provide relevant meeting support (e.g., logistics, supporting materials, notes)
  4. Obtain and organize information on health policy change over time from state and federal websites
  5. File open records requests to obtain information on state and federal policy change over time
  6. Review state Medicaid Managed Care contracts and code them according to a qualitative framework provided by the research team
  7. Assist in the preparation of peer-reviewed manuscripts for submission and publication
  8. Assist in the preparation of data use agreements, IRB applications, study protocols, and other administrative tasks relevant to research
  9. Make periodic reports to supervisor and other research team personnel
  10. Attend regular meetings and check-ins with supervisor and other research team personnel
  11. Producing charts and tables for manuscripts and presentations
  12. Assisting with grant reporting and developing & communicating submission timelines
  13. Supporting journal submission and revision processes
  14. Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of relevant experience is required; a combination of education and experience may be considered
  • Experience using statistical software such as STATA or R is required


Additional Qualifications and Skills: The following job-specific skills and competencies are preferred:

  • Bachelor's Degree, preferably in a health or social science discipline, including quantitative and statistical coursework
  • Experience with Medicaid policy, in particular long-term services and supports
  • Experience programming in STATA
  • Knowledge of standard research methods and statistical techniques, including multivariate regression and causal inference methods
  • Attention to detail, organized, strong written and verbal communication skills

Work Format Details

This is a position that is based at a Harvard campus location with some remote work options available. Additional details will be discussed during the interview process. All remote work must be performed within one of the Harvard Registered Payroll States, which currently includes Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Virginia, Washington, and California (CA for exempt positions only).
