EPRI is seeking a Renewables Generation Technical Leader to support application of EPRI’s leading edge research and team expertise towards more cost effective, reliable, safe and sustainable utility-scale solar PV, battery energy storage systems (BESS), wind power, and other advanced generation technologies across the Gulf region and beyond. The role requires strong experience in engineering, design, construction inspection, commissioning, and grid integration of renewable assets, with the ability to engage with developers, EPCs, and utilities, while documenting lessons-learned to benefit the industry and public.
Key Responsibilities:
Objectively represent EPRI research in visible and critical technical conferences and external meetings with stakeholders and member companies
Review and optimize PV, BESS, and wind project designs
Validate performance and yield assessments and be able to propose correction or improvements on the simulations (e.g. PVsyst, Homer)
Assess technical specifications, layout designs, main equipment selection and plant configurations for compliance with relevant standards and plant optimal design in terms of cost and efficiency.
Support hybrid integration and interconnection design Review and Evaluate EPC deliverables, test plans, and engineering studies
Identify risks and recommend technical improvements
Track regional project activity and engage key stakeholders
Conduct site visits and support inspections and commissioning as needed
Communicate technical findings clearly to internal and external audiences, elaborating reports and deliverables with different level of technical detail depending the target audience.
Creatively solve problems and develop solutions that can be documented and replicated industry-wide for improved plant affordability, reliability, performance, safety, and/or circularity.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical, or power systems engineering; Master’s degree from a research university preferred in applicable field.
Experience:
10+ years in design, inspection, commissioning, or operation of utility-scale renewables (Solar PV, BESS, or Wind projects), preferably more than one.
Multiple demonstrable projects within or for a business conducting project development, Engineering, procurement, construction (EPC), inspection and commissioning services
Exposure to an applied research environment aimed at improving the current state of industry of wind, solar, and/or storage through technology, modeling, or testing.
Required Skills:
Strong understanding of PV systems, BESS, wind turbines, and hybrid plant design
Familiarity with HV/MV systems, overhead and underground lines, substations, SCADA, and plant controls
Ability to assess and improve technical documents, specifications, plant designs and layouts
Experience with plant control strategies (e.g. AGC, curtailment, storage dispatch)
Competence in interpreting performance models and system studies
Clear written and verbal communication for both technical and executive audiences
Regional focus with ability to apply global best practices
