JobSummary:
This position may assist with training and mentoring of lessexperienced design technicians while performing duties, practices and processesrelated to the planning, cost estimating, design, construction and constructioncoordination for electric distribution facilities/systems. The incumbent in this position is expected todemonstrate the ability to perform routine duties and responsibilitiesindependently.
JobDuties and Responsibilities
Provide technical support to distribution engineering andfield operations for the planning extensions, upgrading and maintenance of thedistribution system;
Prepare cost estimates and work instructions includingdrawings, material lists and related information necessary to convey design andconstruction intent;
Meet with external customers (builders, developers andgovernmental agencies) concerning service requirements and design options;
Review any customer provided site development plans,electrical one-lines and panel schedules to calculate load and transformerrequirements and design;
Perform survey and layout work in the field;
Interpret property line boundary, topographic surveys,as-built surveys, construction staking, ROW staking and collection ofgeospatial points;
Research and collect property deed information at recordfacilities for the evaluation of existing or proposed easements, establishownership information and definition of property boundaries;
Initiate designs for new construction, conversion orimprovement of both overhead and underground distribution facilities;
Perform distribution line design calculations forstructure loading, guying, geometric angle calculations, pole/flickercalculations, conductor sag interpretation, unitized framing design,construction practices and construction safety guidelines using industry toolsand methods;
Gather all information and interpret the processes forpermit acquisition involving City, County, State and Federal applications;
May initiate and execute permit applications;
Inspect work performed by associated crews to ensureconstruction meets design requirements, association specifications and NESC/NECrequirements;
May also entail field inspection duties including but notlimited to patrolling distribution lines to assess current state, future needs,or storm restoration support;
Provide scheduled or requested status updates tosupervisors, customers or other relevant parties;
Must document activities in accordance to establisheddocumentation and document control practices.
Qualifications(Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):
- High School Diploma or the equivalent is required;
- Associates degree in Electrical Technology or EngineeringTechnology (or similar discipline) preferred;
- Ten (10) or more years' experience in a position thatdirectly relates to the responsibilities above required;
- One year of on the job experience in Graphic Tool designor electronic design software relating to the position or industry required(e.g. GDT and Maximo) required;

- The ideal candidate will have course work or on the jobexposure to areas of distribution design such as AC Voltage Generation,Impedance and Voltage Drop, Three Phase Power Systems, System Layout, OverheadLines, Underground Distribution Systems, Substations, Distributed Generation,Substation Transformers, Distribution Transformers, Fault Interrupting Devices,Fundamentals of Protection and Overcurrent Protection;
- Must demonstrate the ability to understand codes andpractices related to the position;
- Must demonstrate understanding and applying basicmathematics;
- Candidate must have the ability to communicateeffectively and professionally with a diverse audience (customers, fieldworkers and management).
WorkingConditions:Work is primarily conducted at Project Construction Siteswithin Utility Company service area (may require occasional travel to otherservices areas). This might include electric Substations, Transmission andDistribution lines.
Interaction with other team members, as well as supervisorsand client personnel.
Must be able to wear safety equipment as required by thesafety department for personal protection.
May be at morethan one job site in a day and must be able to tolerate climate changes.
