Located in Greater Boston, MassBay is a comprehensive, open-access community college offering associate degrees and certificate programs on three campuses in Wellesley Hills, Framingham, and Ashland, Massachusetts.


Position Summary:

The idealcandidate will join a vibrant and inclusive educational community and have adesire and ability to work with a diverse population. Working in closecollaboration with the staff in the Student Development office, the StudentDevelopment Specialist will supervise work study students, triage studentsituations, assist with processing financial transactions and reports, supportthe Vice President for Student Development and Dean of Students with specialprojects, assist the SUCCESS Manager with research and project assignments,attend staff meetings, and provide training sessions to staff members andstudents on special topics.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Support the Vice President for Student Development and Dean of Students with special projects and initiatives;

  • Assist the SUCCESS Manager with research, projects, and other duties as assigned;

  • Assist with the implementation of Student Development sponsored activities, programs, and events;

  • Assist with the assessment of the effectiveness and impact of Division programs and

  • Provide support for basic needs initiatives;

  • Supervise student employees;

  • Oversee the medical re-entry process, including collaboration with Dean of Students Office, Counseling Department and students;

  • Perform routine administrative tasks and provide assistance or refer students to appropriate staff;

  • Serve as a contact for Student Development on the Wellesley campus and help direct students, faculty, and staff members to appropriate college offices and services;

  • Assist the departmental budgets, entering invoices into the financial database for approval, and running quarterly and annual reports;

  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve in a fast-paced work environment;

  • Attend bi-weekly Student Development staff meetings;

  • Provide excellent customer service to students, faculty, staff members, and guests;

  • Demonstrated ability to exercise good judgment;

  • Demonstrated ability to work both autonomously and in a team setting;

  • Participate in staff, divisional, and college committee meetings;

  • Other duties as assigned.

RequiredQualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience and at least three years of related work experience;

  • Experience supervising staff;

  • Respect and understanding of people with diverse backgrounds, abilities, and needs;

  • Experience using platforms like PeopleSoft Financial Software;

  • Highly organized and proactive team player;

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Experience working in a diverse environment;

  • Master’s degree;

  • Demonstrated commitment to working with underserved students;

  • Demonstrated ability to create alternative solutions to problems;

  • Bilingual in Spanish, Portuguese or Creole;

  • Demonstrated excellent and positive interpersonal skills;

  • Demonstrated communication skills including written, verbal, listening, and presentation;

  • Maintain high level of organizational and time management skills;

  • Demonstrated flexibility in juggling competing priorities and changing expectations;

  • Demonstrated a sense of urgency when appropriate;

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office;

  • Sensitivity and commitment to the goals of Affirmative Action and workforce diversity;

  • Experience working in a diverse environment;

  • Demonstrated commitment to working with underserved students.

Additional Information:

Salary Range: $60,000-$65,000
