Job Description

Job Summary:

Reporting to the Executive Director of DCE Global, the Assistant Director for Global Engagement will serve as a key leader in advancing the Division of Continuing Education’s (DCE) international partnership strategy. As a vital member of the DCE Global team, this role will be instrumental in strengthening existing global partnerships and launching innovative programming aimed at reaching new student audiences.


Job Specific Responsibilities:

This role will lead business development efforts to identify and cultivate new global partnership opportunities that generate revenue and expand DCE’s international impact. By leveraging DCE’s educational technology capacity and established partner network, the role will support the development and delivery of innovative, high-quality partnership programs—credit and non-credit—in Cambridge (MA) and around the world. Designed for high school, undergraduate, graduate, and executive learners, these partnership offerings will be delivered in flexible formats—including in-person, hybrid, and fully online—to meet the needs of diverse student populations across global markets and academic terms.

The role will also develop and implement a comprehensive student recruitment and engagement strategy through established international partnership channels to support DCE’s global enrollment and programmatic goals. A key focus will be strengthening relationships with existing global partners and enhancing the experience of students affiliated with those institutions.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Partner with external institutions and internal DCE stakeholders to design and launch innovative programming that leverages the Division’s strengths and aligns with its mission.
  • Conduct market research to identify potential domestic and international partners, analyze their academic needs, and develop reports and recommendations for DCE leadership.
  • Develop and manage a DCE Global content management system (CMS) to support partnership development and engagement.
  • Respond to inquiries from prospective partners and maintain accurate, up-to-date records of contacts, outreach activities, and relevant market insights.
  • Design and execute a promotional strategy targeting students enrolled at partner institutions to drive awareness and enrollment.
  • Evaluate current international partnership channels and develop targeted promotional materials and tools to support recruitment efforts.
  • Lead the development and implementation of a student engagement strategy aimed at fostering connection, satisfaction, and retention among students from partner schools.
  • Cultivate and manage relationships with global partners to ensure alignment with strategic goals and sustained collaboration.


Working Conditions:

This position will be based in Cambridge, MA. Hybrid workplace models in place at DCE with a minimum of 2 days per week on campus. DCE or department may adjust these as necessary or appropriate.

The position requires the ability to travel both domestically and internationally as needed to support partnership development and program implementation.


Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum 5+ years of program or partnership management experience


Additional Qualifications and Skills:

  • Demonstrates an entrepreneurial spirit and thrives in a dynamic, start-up-like environment by proactively identifying opportunities, adapting to change, and driving innovative solutions.
  • Master’s degree in international education, higher education administration, global studies, or a related field.
  • Prior experience working in a college, university, or education-focused nonprofit with an international portfolio.
  • Proficiency in one or more languages in addition to English.
  • First-hand experience living, working, or studying abroad.
  • Familiarity with current global mobility trends, education policies, and market dynamics in international recruitment.
  • Familiarity with international student visa processes, data privacy laws, and education compliance standards.
  • Strategic Business Development: Proven ability to identify, evaluate, and cultivate international partnerships aligned with institutional goals.
  • International Student Recruitment: Experience designing and executing recruitment strategies through global partnerships, with measurable outcomes.
  • Cross-Culture Communication: Strong interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity in communicating with diverse international stakeholders.
  • Partnership Management: Ability to build and maintain long-term institutional relationships across countries and educational sectors.
  • Marketing & Communications Strategy: Skilled in developing and managing communication plans tailored to international partners and prospective students.
  • Student Engagement Planning: Experience designing programs and initiatives to enhance the international student experience and engagement.
  • Project Management: Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
  • Data-Driven Decision-Making: Competence in using data and analytics to assess partnership performance and inform strategic planning.
  • Public Speaking and Presentation: Confidence and clarity in representing the institution in external meetings, conferences, and recruitment events.
  • Collaboration and Teamwork: Ability to work cross-functionally with academic departments, student services, and global education offices.
  • Tech Proficiency: Familiarity with CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce) and digital communication tools.

Work Format Details

This is a position that is based at a Harvard campus location with some remote work options available. Additional details will be discussed during the interview process. All remote work must be performed within one of the Harvard Registered Payroll States, which currently includes Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Virginia, Washington, and California (CA for exempt positions only). Certain visa types and funding sources may limit work location. Individuals must meet work location sponsorship requirements prior to employment.
