Description
Position: Tugboat Captain
Travel: primarily Crystal City, VA; some regional travel required in future
Pay Range: $40-45 per hour base pay (this position is to start on a prevailing wage job); Based on experience
We are currently seeking a Tugboat Captain to join our Wagman Heavy Civil, Inc. team on our Long Bridge Project. Reporting to the Project Management team, the Tugboat Captain is responsible for all tugboat operations to include but not limited to safely and efficiently operating the tugboat daily on local waters, maneuvering construction equipment and/or barges on waterways, and vessel inspections. This position works along with the entire Project Team to support the completion of assigned construction engineering projects and ensures all plans move forward to meet project deadlines.
This is a safety sensitive position requiring work on construction sites with various safety hazards inherent in heavy construction.
This position is subject to drug testing and compliance policies associated with our status as a Federal Contractor.

Qualifications:
• Minimum of five (5) years of experience safely maneuvering construction equipment with tugboats
• Master of Towing License a plus
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Strong prioritization and organizational skills; detail-oriented
Essential Functions
• Operate and navigate tugboats with safety and precision on local waters.
• Ensure compliance with maritime regulations.
• Communicate effectively with other captains and mates.
• Previous experience maneuvering construction barges and equipment on waterways.
• Ability to maneuver the tugboat and barges in tight quarters between existing structures safely.
• Maintain the tugboat to a high standard ensuring it’s in optimal working condition.
• Conduct regular vessel inspections.
• Ability to work long shifts with flexible schedule as the job may have moves required during off-peak hours.
Physical Requirements of the Essential Functions
• Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds from ground level to waist level.
• Must be able to bend, squat, and kneel occasionally throughout a scheduled work shift.
• Must be able to climb ladders.
• Continuous standing and walking required throughout a scheduled work shift.
• Must be able to perform simple grasping and fine manipulation tasks with both hands.
• Must be able to work outdoors in wet, muddy, cold, hot and humid weather.
• Acceptable corrected vision (in both eyes) and acceptable corrected hearing required.
