Essential Job Functions:  

This position is responsible for primary cashier duties in the court, to include operating the cash register on a production basis. The incumbent will ring all monies received from customers in all case types, collect trial payments, and receive counter payments. This position is responsible for opening, time/date stamping, and distributing all counter filings. The incumbent will act as a criminal/traffic clerk and will assist the public at the counter. This position is designated as essential personnel.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Utilize cash register to ring all monies due to the court for all case types:  traffic, criminal, and civil filings. This includes trial payments, mail payments, counter customer payments, and related filings.

Account for all monies collected daily by balancing the register at the end of the day.  Process and forward end of day/month reports to the proper departments

Assist the public at the counter with general inquiries; provide information when needed; distribute forms; answer general routine questions regarding traffic, criminal, and civil cases; provide directions to other departments and agencies; and answer and transfer telephone calls to proper departments.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

High school diploma (or GED equivalent).

Experience:

One (1) year of work experience, preferably in court operations or in the fields of criminal justice, parole and probation, legal or financial services.

Note:

A Bachelor's Degree may substitute the required work experience.

A Paralegal/Associates Degree or 60 college credits may substitute the required work experience.

A Paralegal Certificate may substitute the required work experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of:

Specific knowledge of the cashier/accounting functions. 

General knowledge of court proceedings.

District Court forms/procedures/resources available to customers and which would be applicable for the customers? particular situation.

Resources available to customer to receive assistance with non-District Court related issues.

Skill in:

Organization and workload management.

Utilizing all forms of office technology, including cash register, computer, fax machine, photocopier, shredder, postage meter and printers.

Performing basic math calculations.

Typing with accuracy and efficiency.

Ability to:

Complete assigned duties within reasonable time frame.

Multitask and prioritize competing tasks, particularly when the office is short-staffed.

Manage a high-volume workload in a busy, fast-paced office environment.

Operate computerized cash register, cash register program, and register equipment.

Operate a desktop computer using various programs, including the District Court mainframe database, word processing software, and Judiciary email/instant messaging.

Account for all monies received via daily balancing of cash drawer.

Observe proper cash handling and deposit protocol.

Enter data accurately using proper coding.

Provide customer service quickly, accurately, and consistently to the public, attorneys, and other agencies.

Utilize District Court manuals to complete assignments and assist customers.

Maintain a professional demeanor with all customers.

Physical Requirements:

Light work. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for light work.

Software and Computer Skills:

Ability to operate a desktop computer using various programs, including the Odyssey/MDEC, File and Serve, MicroSoft 365 incluiding Outlook, Teams, and Word.

Must have ability to operate computerized cash register, cash register program, and register equipment.

The internet is utilized for access to court forms and manuals.

The clerk should be able to accurately enter data into Odyssey/MDEC using proper codes.
