Job Purpose: 

DHL is seeking a highly skilled Associate General Counsel with a minimum of 10+ years of experience to provide legal support to DHL Global Forwarding USA and to review and negotiate a wide variety of contracts (e.g., customer) to ensure compliance with laws and Company policies. 

Your Tasks:

  • Responsible for all aspects of legal services to DHL Global Forwarding (DGF) US business unit.  Member of USA Management Board (USMB) responsible for setting direction with regard to legal matters, monitoring progress and reporting to USMB regularly. 
  • Regularly meet with senior management regarding ongoing legal issues.
  • Responsible for setting legal agenda for DGF US, aligning legal services and driving initiatives to completion.
  • Responsible for managing outside counsel and outside counsel spend.
  • Responsible for the review, edit and negotiation of all customer contracts (e.g., DGF MNC, BC, and CSI, and other Business Unit contracts as assigned) and vendor agreements, and other.
  • Work with litigation management team to help facilitate the resolution of litigation matters for DGF in the US.
  • Assess legal risks in operations and institute processes to mitigate risks.
  • Provide training on legal issues and contract negotiations to customer and global business managers.
  • Work with business development and bid management teams on workflow processes and contract management.
  • Lead legal contact for select CSI customers and topics (including responsibility for helping Legal to better support the Company’s sector-based focus areas as part of DHL Group Strategy 2030 and, potentially, for serving on various Global Legal Department Practice Groups).
  • Responsible for identifying legal trends (and sector-based challenges) amongst CSI customers and creating solutions.
  • Expected to be a key contributor to DGF Legal Practice Group, if enrolled.
  • Develop a high-performance service culture within the legal department through formal and informal mentoring.
  • Manage the allocation of appropriate resources including paralegals and outside counsel for specific legal areas.

Your Profile:

  • B.A. (from an accredited college or university).
  • J.D. (from an accredited law school) plus 10+ years’ experience in corporate legal environment in related area of expertise.
  • Experience in multi-national corporation with knowledge in commercial contracts and corporate law.
  • Ability to work in an organized, efficient manner; must work well with minimal supervision and have excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experience working with senior level personnel on issues of major significance.
  • Detail oriented, capable of handling heavy, multi-layered client, and be extremely responsive to tight turn around schedules for many transactions in various stages of development.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team of professionals, including performance management and evaluations.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and database systems.
