JOB SUMMARY

The TOP Coordinator position directs/facilitates a well-rounded life skills program including academic, social, and emotional support and service learning projects. Administers and systematizes the Teen Outreach Program (T.O.P.) Advisory Board Committee to provide quality programming for all program participants.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Plans, develops and implements program model comprised of academic, social and emotional support.
  2. Develops and maintains Advisory Board Committee bi-monthly meetings.
  3. Works in partnership with school administration to identify needs of students and align programming with school curriculum.
  4. Recruits, enrolls, and maintains a minimum of 50 active students per grant expectations.
  5. Establishes and nurtures positive relationships with students and serves as a positive role model.
  6. Provides a structured academic environment, assists students with educational goal development and connects students to a variety of resources as needed.
  7. Supervises students during on and off-site activities.
  8. Ensures student safety during program hours.
  9. Maintains communication with school faculty/staff and parents/guardians.
  10. Maintains program site, supplies and resources and distribute daily snacks.
  11. Attends and actively participates in staff meetings, trainings and workshops, including being available for CPR/First Aid certification.
  12. Tracks student grades and standardized test scores.
  13. Collects and submits all necessary data for reporting.
  14. Sets program goals, objectives and outcomes.
  15. Collaborates with Community School Director to align curriculum with the current day program.
  16. Ensures proper timekeeping and attending ongoing training opportunities.
  17. Understands budget and ensures program stays within program guidelines.
  18. Generates reports for Community School Director and/or funder on an as needed basis.
  19. Maintains program’s electronic newsletter and calendar of events, which will include, service learning projects, guest speakers, field trips, etc.

Experience and Skills

EDUCATION

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Enrollment in college-level, pursuing degree in Education or Human Services field, or equivalent professional experience preferred

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of 1-year prior experience working with groups of children in an educational and/or recreational setting a must.
  • Knowledge of teaching skills, techniques, practices a plus.
  • Excellent oral and written skills and ability to communicate comfortably with children, parents, school personnel and members of the community.
  • Organized and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Flexible and able to multi-task.
  • Experience working with inner-city children a must.
  • Knowledge of community resources throughout Hartford a plus.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.
