General Summary:
The Student Access Specialist is a key member of the Student Access and Support Services (SASS) team, who works collaboratively with members of the Student Access and Support Services team to ensure institutional compliance with the provisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act and Sections 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. Primary responsibilities include participating fully in the activities and initiatives of the SASS office in educating both incoming and existing students about Middlesex Community College and policies and procedures; serving as an advisor to a designated cohort of students; performing administrative tasks as necessary to achieve departmental goals; and engaging in activities for professional growth and development.
This position requires specialized experience in providing accommodations in a postsecondary setting to students with various disabilities and collaborating with various College departments as well as external agencies.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Review and analyze documentation, including neuropsychological and psycho-educational assessments and/or provider documentation, to determine eligibility for accessibility services and appropriate accommodations and supports.
Conduct intake interviews with students to assess their needs and develop individualized accommodations in accordance with their diagnoses, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
Draft accommodation forms outlining reasonable accommodations, make recommendations to students, and provide information on roles and responsibilities in implementing accommodations.
Offer one-on-one sessions to students with documented disabilities, focusing on metacognitive strategies such as time management, organization, study skills, test-taking techniques, pre-registration guidance, and self-advocacy.
Maintain ongoing contact with students to support independent learning, monitor progress, and assist in navigating classroom accommodations with faculty.
Help students interpret assessment results, gain self-awareness, and understand their strengths, weaknesses, and learning styles.
Conduct proactive outreach throughout the semester to track progress and provide support.
Serve as a resource for the College community by collaborating with faculty and staff to implement accommodations, share information about campus departments (e.g., Veterans Resource Center, Wellness Resource Center), and facilitate connections to external agencies (e.g., State Human Service Agencies). Support interdepartmental communication and co-curricular initiatives to enhance student retention.
Proctor exams as needed, including outside regular working hours when necessary.
Engage, collaborate with, and facilitate referrals to internal departments such as Advising, Financial Aid, Wellness Resource Center, etc.
Perform administrative duties, case notes, and record-keeping as related to the operation of the SASS office.
Bachelor's Degree in a related field required
Three (3) years' experience and/or training that includes college-level learning disability services, learning disability assessment, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)/Section 504 compliance, development of policies/procedures, teaching, or curriculum development; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Demonstrated ability to evaluate disability documentation and make recommendations for accommodations and support services; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Salary Range: $69,821 is the starting salary with a Bachelor's Degree; actual salary commensurate with academic background and experience. Employees of Middlesex Community College are considered employees of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and receive benefits, which include:
Location: Lowell campus with travel to Bedford campus as scheduled/needed
Hours: 37.5 hours per week, schedule to be determined upon hire; This position will be eligible for a maximum of one day of telework in accordance with the College's telework policy.
