The School of Counseling, Psychology, and Therapy (CPT) at Antioch University Seattle invites applications for a unique dual-role position as a full-time Teaching Faculty member with Program Director of Sexuality Studies appointment within the Couples and Family Therapy Program.

Antioch University Master of Arts in Couple and Family Therapy (CFT) provides students with the training and clinical experience necessary to become licensed Marriage and Family Therapists (LMFTs). Our students develop the knowledge, skills, self-awareness, and clinical competencies as marriage and family therapists (MFTs) in alignment with professional and national standards to work with children and adults individually or as part of a relational system. Students graduate with the ability to provide ethical, skills, socially just, and anti-racist couple and family therapist to a diverse array of clients.

Within the CFT MA degree, students are able to specialize in one of two cutting edge fields - art therapy or dance movement therapy - and/or obtain certifications in coveted areas such as play therapy, sex therapy, gender affirming clinical practice, sexuality education, trauma informed practice, and addiction studies. Values of ethical practice, social responsibility, anti-racism, and cultural diversity are central part of the CFT curricula, and students receive a balance of traditional and contemporary perspectives in the MFT field.

The CFT Program includes a vital component – the Sexuality Studies Certificate Programs. These programs are integral in equipping students with specialized knowledge and skills to address a broad range of sexual health and wellness issues. They advocate for an inclusive, sex-positive approach and gear towards preparing students for AASECT certification.

Primary Responsibilities

Antioch University CFT Teaching Faculty members are engaged in student learning and institutional citizenship.The successful applicant will divide their time equally between their role as an instructor in the CFT program and as the Director of the Sexuality Studies Certificate Program. They will be responsible for teaching graduate courses, supervising students’ clinical training, and directing the Sexuality Studies Certificate Programs. This position is full time (100% FTE).

Responsibilities for this position include:

• Teach a total of 18 semester credits of direct instruction per year with course releases for the Program Director responsibilities. Course assignments and releases will be made annually in consultation with the CFT Chair considering individual and program needs.
• As the Director of the Sexuality Studies Certificate Program, you will:
  • Advise up to 15 students in the Sexuality Certificates program, assessing academic progress, aiding with arrangements for non-curricular resources (career pathways, AASECT certification, research projects, community engagement, etc.)
  • Coordinate residencies for the Sexuality Certificate Programs
  • Manage the admissions process for student applicants to the Sexuality Certificate Programs, conduct interviews with applicants, make recommendations regarding individual admissions decisions, and follow up with situations involving conditional admissions which require additional monitoring
  • Participate in curriculum development related to gender and sexuality studies
  • Participate in specific program development efforts such as accreditation, outcomes, and marketing
  • Develop and coordinate program related training initiatives as assigned by the program chair
• Participate in scheduled department, faculty, and program meetings and retreats to discuss implementation of policy and procedures, development of strategic objectives and directions, and topics in teaching/advising, student standards, adjunct faculty relations, accreditation, and curriculum development
• Serve on University special committees, task forces, and campus-wide faculty leadership; attend all-community events
• Serve as Teaching Liaison for various content areas in the CFT Program curriculum to ensure quality of teaching and assist in problem resolution. Liaison activities may include recruiting adjunct faculty in specific content areas, consulting on syllabus development, monitoring mid-term and final course evaluations, providing feedback to adjunct faculty about quality of teaching, and providing consultation for problematic student situations
• Actively engage in scholarship, professional dialogue, and community service by contributing to the creation and sharing of knowledge in scholarly research and writing,community outreach, and dialogue with peers and colleagues in the field of marriage and family therapy and in the broader educational community
• Participate in activities for professional development (conferences, seminars, workshops, courses) as relevant to areas of special expertise and interest
• Actively engage in the clinical practice and/or supervision of therapy as a state licensed or certified clinician

Required Qualifications

• Doctoral degree in Couple/Marriage and Family Therapy or related field from a regionally accredited institution
• AASECT Certified Sex Therapist or Educator
• Licensed or licensed eligible as a marriage and family therapist
• An academic background suitable to a program committed to progressive education, diversity, anti-racism and anti-oppression, social justice, and community engagement
• Minimum of 4 years of experience teaching in graduate programs
• Identify professionally primarily as a Couple/Marriage and Family Therapist, as demonstrated by adopting the AAMFT Code of Ethics as a guide for professional conduct and membership in systemically-oriented organizations, including AAMFT, and/or demonstrating relational identities in work or other environments
• At least one published article in a peer reviewed journal and any combination of book chapters, books, grants, or presentations at professional academic conferences
• Commitment to anti-racist principles in teaching and clinical work with demonstrated ability to incorporate those principles into teaching, supervision, course development, and research

Preferred Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

• Ability to complement and build on existing strengths within the division and will be eager to interact with students and faculty from the broader Antioch community.
• Program administration experience in graduate education.
• Commitment to and proven history of incorporating social justice and multicultural frameworks in teaching, clinical work, and research.
• AASECT Certified Sex Therapy Supervisor or Educator preferred (or in progress)
• AAMFT Approved Supervisor or AAMFT Supervisor Candidate
• Expertise in one or more of the following areas:
  • couple and family therapy research and assessment.
  • social justice theories pertaining to systemic therapy.
  • research and/or clinical work focusing on social justice and multicultural issues, sexology, and/or systemic therapy.
  • online or low-residency instruction experience.
  • competency-based assessment experience.
  • interest or experience in experiential education and remote learning pedagogical methods.
  • interest and/or experience in training supervisors.
• Program/certificate development, administration, and/or leadership in a COAMFTE-accredited graduate program.
