We are actively searching for Software Engineer (SWE) Skill Level 3, located in Maryland, to support our team. We have varying levels of this position, depending on years of experience and education.


Essential Job Duties

  • Develops, maintains, and enhances complex and diverse SW systems (e.g., processing-intensive analytics, novel algorithm development, manipulation of extremely large data sets, real-time systems, and business management information systems) based upon documented requirements. Works individually or as part of a team. Reviews and tests SW components for adherence to the design requirements and documents test results. Resolves SW problem reports. Utilizes SW development and SW design methodologies appropriate to the development environment. Provides specific input to the SW components of system design to include HW/SW tradeoffs, SW reuse, use of COTS/GOTS in place of new development, and requirements analysis and synthesis from system level to individual SW components.

The Level 3 Software Engineer shall possess the following capabilities:

  • Analyze user requirements to derive SW design and performance requirements
  • Debug existing SW and correct defects
  • Provide recommendations for improving documentation and SW development process standards
  • Design, code, or modify new/existing SW to add new features
  • Integrate existing SW into new or modified systems or operating environments
  • Develop simple data queries for existing or proposed databases or data repositories
  • Write or review SW and system documentation
  • Serve as team lead at the level appropriate to the SW development process being used on any particular project
  • Design or implement complex database or data repository interfaces/queries
  • Develop or implement algorithms to meet or exceed system performance and functional standards
  • Assist with developing and executing test procedures for SW components
  • Develop SW solutions by analyzing system performance standards, confer with users or system engineers; analyze systems flow, data usage and work processes; and investigate problem areas
  • Modify existing SW to correct errors, to adapt to new HW, or to improve its performance
  • Design, develop and modify SW systems, using scientific analysis and mathematical models to predict and measure outcome and consequences of design
  • Design or implement complex algorithms requiring adherence to strict timing, system resource, or interface constraints; Perform quality control on team products
  • Implement recommendations for improving documentation and SW development process standards
  • Oversee one or more SW development teams and ensure the work is completed in accordance with the constraints of the SW development process being used on any particular project
  • Confer with system engineers and HW engineers to derive SW requirements and to obtain information on project limitations and capabilities, performance requirements and interfaces
  • Coordinate SW system installation and monitor equipment function to ensure operational spec are met
  • Recommend new technologies and processes for complex SW projects
  • Serve as the technical lead of multiple SW development teams
  • Select the SW development process in coordination with the customer and system engineering
  • Ensure QC of all developed and modified SW
  • Delegate programming and testing responsibilities to one or more teams and monitor their performance

Required Qualifications

  • 20 years experience as a SWE in programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity is required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related discipline from an accredited college or university is required.
  • 4 years of additional SWE experience on projects with similar SW processes may be substituted for a bachelor's degree.

The pay range for this role is:
205,000 - 255,000 USD per year(PTC - MD)
