Roger Williams University seeks Adjunct Professors to join its Music Program on an as needed basis. Teaching assignments will vary based on our needs and demand, encompassing one-on-one studio lessons and/or courses in music history, theory, world culture through music, music technology, or other relevant areas depending on applicant expertise and curricular requirements.

The Music Program is housed within RWU's Department of Performing and Creative Arts, part of the School of Humanities, Arts, and Education. Our instructors engage with a diverse student body, including Music Majors, Minors, and non-Majors with varying levels of musical experience?from beginner to advanced. Music Majors can choose from three tracks: Performance, Composition/Production, and Music Scholarship. Applied music (lesson) in the program caters to students of all levels, offering pathways to a capstone senior recital for advanced students.

We are particularly interested in candidates who enjoy interacting with liberal arts students from diverse backgrounds and motivations for studying music. Our students, many include double majors and general education minors, seek a lifelong connection with music, whether pursuing music professionally or exploring for knowledge and enrichment. Faculty who can integrate multiple disciplinary perspectives, including other arts, sciences, business, technology, and cultural studies, are highly valued.



Job Requirements:
  • Master's degree in music (doctorate preferred).
  • Professional experience with significant undergraduate-level teaching preferred.
  • For studio instruction, demonstrated excellence as a performer and studio teacher.
  • Commitment to fostering student success at all levels and contributing collegially to the department.

At the University's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be accepted where the candidate can demonstrate, to the satisfaction of the University, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
