About the position
As the Vice President of Estimating, you will be responsible for leading the strategic direction, performance, and continuous improvement of the company's estimating operations across all markets and projects. The Vice President of Estimating oversees the estimating function for all large-scale, complex commercial electrical construction projects, ensuring accuracy, innovation, and alignment with all Company policies, procedures, key objectives and regulations. This role is instrumental in shaping preconstruction strategy, optimizing operational efficiency, driving business development, and mentoring top estimating talent.

Day in the life
- Provides visionary leadership for the estimating department, aligning estimating strategies and practices with overall company objectives. Serves as a key contributor to companywide strategic planning, growth initiatives, and executive decision-making.
- Leads, coaches, and mentors a high-performing estimating team, including directors, managers, and senior estimators. Establishes a culture of accountability, innovation, and excellence. Develops succession plans and ensures robust training and development programs are in place to support continuous team growth.
- Oversees and optimizes all estimating processes and systems to ensure consistency, accuracy, and efficiency. Establishes and enforces companywide estimating policies, standards, and best practices, leveraging LEAN and other continuous improvement methodologies.
- Provides executive oversight on all high-profile and complex estimates. Conducts detailed risk assessments and value analyses on major projects. Ensures strategic evaluation of scope, labor, materials, and general expenses. Drives the use of data and technology to enhance forecasting and estimating precision.
- Acts as a senior representative in key client interactions and major pursuits. Collaborates with Business Development and Operations teams to assess project feasibility and positioning. Leads high-level preconstruction efforts and builds strategic partnerships to drive market growth.
- Creates and manages annual departmental budgets. Contributes to overall company financial performance by improving estimating accuracy, cost forecasting, and win rates. Collaborates with Finance to analyze trends and provide data-driven insights to executive leadership.
- Champions the adoption of modern estimating technologies and platforms. Stays ahead of industry trends and ensures the team remains at the forefront of estimating innovation, particularly in digital preconstruction tools such as Accubid, BIM integration, and automated takeoffs.
- Partners with Senior Leaders, Operations, Preconstruction, and Field teams to ensure a seamless project life cycle from concept through construction. Influences key decisions across departments and acts as a bridge between estimating and execution.
- Creates and manages an annual financial budget and maintains responsibility for Companywide financials. Stays informed of new and changing Company procedures, policies, materials, technologies, techniques, and practices.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or a related field required. Master's degree or MBA preferred.
- Minimum of 15+ years of electrical construction experience with 10+ years in senior estimating leadership, including direct oversight of large, complex commercial and design/build projects.
- Proven success in leading large teams, managing executive-level client relationships, and delivering accurate, competitive estimates in a fast-paced environment.
- Deep expertise in electrical systems, national and local electrical code, construction means and methods, and market trends.
- Advanced understanding of estimating software platforms; Accubid proficiency preferred. Strong data analysis, financial acumen, and conceptual estimating skills.
- Demonstrated excellence in strategic planning, business development, cross-functional leadership, and executive communication.
- Exceptional interpersonal and influencing skills with the ability to lead through others and inspire collaboration across organizational boundaries.
- Visionary leader with a proven track record of developing high-performance teams and scalable processes.
- Strong executive presence with a client-first mindset and excellent negotiation and presentation skills.
- Skilled in navigating organizational change, managing ambiguity, and guiding teams through periods of transformation and growth.
Travel
- Approximately 50% travel is expected and required.
