May work at various locations on the University HealthCare and Medical Center Campus and transport materials and/or equipment to such locations.

May be exposed to elements of weather and temperature extremes while on-the-job and when traveling to/from job site(s).

Performs physical activities that require considerable use of arms, legs, and movement of the whole body, such as required in climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials.

Ability to work off scissor lift, aerial lift, scaffolds and ladders.

7:00am – 3:30pm (Monday – Friday)

Hours of work may vary dependent upon situational factors requiring night(s), weekend(s), and holiday(s) response.
Job Summary
Reporting directly to the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor, this position:
  • inspects the worksite to determine materials, equipment, tool requirements and methods to be used
  • Plans, lays out, assembles, finishes, and installs materials, equipment, and fixtures as required by the scope of the work
  • Reads and interprets blueprints;
  • Performs new work inside/outside
  • buildings, including
    • rough/finish carpentry
    • metal and wood stud walls
    • drywall
    • suspended ceiling systems
    • etc.
  • Repairs and maintains structures, fixtures, and buildings
  • Transports materials, tools, and equipment to the worksite
  • Erects and dismantles scaffolding, as needed
  • Performs case or fixture work, exterior/interior trim work, rough framing, concrete frame work, bracing, forms, etc.
  • Replaces panes of glass, ceiling tiles, and doors; Installs partitions, doors, windows, ceiling tiles, floor tiles, vinyl base, etc.
  • Utilizes and maintains hand and power tools and equipment, including chisels, planes, saws, drills, and sanders to repair and erect structures.

In addition, the Facilities Carpenter:
  • is instrumental in designing, building, fabricating assembling, installing, and repairing structures, fixtures, furniture, and other items
  • Installs, maintains, and repairs doors, windows, window hardware, floors, ceilings, partitions, office equipment/furniture, classroom fixtures/equipment, athletic fixtures/equipment, etc., adhering to accepted procedures and techniques of the carpenter trade
  • Estimates height, width, length, and other proportions
  • Selects materials, including:
    • wood
    • metal
    • plastic
    • fiberglass
    • drywall
    • etc.
  • Works from blueprints and/or instructions from supervisor;
  • Joins materials with nails, screw, staples, or adhesives;
  • Installs cabinets and moldings, stairs, and other fixtures;
  • Utilizes hand tools, including:
    • level
    • rules
    • plumb bobs
    • framing squares
    • surveying equipment to ensure everything is level and secure
  • Operates power equipment, including:
    • saws
    • hammers
    • nail guns
    • staple guns
    • mixers
    • sprayers
    • sanders
    • cutting tools
    • etc.

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
MS Windows/Office; KRONOS; SAP

Demonstrated knowledge of all phases of construction and skill in the reading and interpretation of blueprints and drawings.
Does this position have supervisory responsibilities? NoPreferred Education/Experience
HS + 6 Years

Industrial or Technical Degree or Associate’s Degree — Preferred.

Minimum of six years’ experience in building and general maintenance, knowledge of carpentry trade terminology, construction materials, tools, equipment, and building products.

Vocational, apprenticeship, or journey-level experience — Highly Desirable.

Driver’s License — Preferred
