Position Summary

The Safety Coordinator supports the safe and compliant operation of our maritime activities by assisting with training, inspections, and regulatory compliance. This position works closely with the Safety Manager and operational teams to help to comply with employee safety, proper use of equipment, and adherence to OSHA and US Coastguard safety standards.

Job Duties & Responsibilities


Enforcing Safety Procedures:

· Ensuring employees follow established safety procedures and use personal protective equipment (PPE) correctly.

· Help lead safety meetings and conduct meeting minutes.


Conducting Inspections and Audits:

· Regularly inspecting the workplace for hazards and conducting safety audits to identify areas for improvement


Incident Investigation:

· Investigating workplace accidents and near misses to determine root causes and prevent future occurrences.

· Maintain and organize safety records and reports.


Training:

· Conducting safety training for employees, including new hire orientation and refresher courses, according to the OSHA and US Coastguard requirements.


Emergency Preparedness:

· Developing and implementing emergency procedures and ensuring employees are aware of and prepared for potential emergencies.


Promoting Safety Culture:

· Fostering a positive safety culture where employees are proactive about safety and feel comfortable reporting hazards.


Risk Assessment:

· Identifying potential hazards and assessing the associated risks to determine appropriate control measures.


Ensuring Proper Equipment Maintenance:

· Making sure that all safety equipment is properly maintained and in good working order.

· Monitor PPE availability and usage across job sites.


Administrative Duties:

· Assist Human Resources on Workers' Comp claims procedures and file organization as needed.

· Assist in manual and documentation development

· Organize and maintain safety files and summaries.

· Comply with OSHA, Federal, State, City, County, US Coastguard and company safety policies

· Assist with the development of templates for consistent safety policies and procedures

· Assist with organizing and putting together materials for safety training and presentations.

· Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

Qualifications

· 1–3 years of experience in OSHA, Maritime, or Industrial safety role (preferred)

· Current Driver's License

· Bilingual (English & Spanish) (preferred)

· CPR / First Aid Certification

· Familiarity with OSHA Construction/General Industry and US Coastguard safety regulations

· Authorized OSHA Outreach instructor (preferred)

· Proficient computer skills (Excel, Word, Google Docs, PowerPoint, etc.)


Physical Demands

· Must be able to lift/push/pull up to 40 lbs. without restriction

· Must be able to bend, stoop, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces

· Tolerant of varying weather and environmental conditions

· Adequate vision and hearing to identify hazards

· Ability to move safely on decks, docks, and uneven surfaces

· Comfortable working around grease, water, dirt, and mechanical equipment
