The Position:

The Principal Data Engineer will contribute to Veracytes success by designing, implementing, and maintaining cloud data infrastructure, pipelines, and solutions in support of companys data engineering needs. In addition to the regular duties of a Data Engineer, the Principal Data Engineer will play a key role in evaluating and implementing a data catalogue in support of our global data strategy and policy. This is a hands-on-keys role in addition to supporting the companys broader digital transformation strategy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable and efficient data infrastructure and pipelines for Lake and Mesh systems.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
  • Optimize data retrieval and processing for improved performance and reliability.
  • Implement data security measures and ensure compliance with data governance policies.
  • Design and implement a data management framework encompassing a catalogue of diverse internal and external source data, catering to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Identify and assess data sources across the organization.
  • Evaluate and buy or design and develop a user-friendly data catalogue application.
  • Ensure data cataloguing aligns with best practices and industry standards.
  • Provide training and support to users of the data catalogue.
  • Support the development and implementation of data strategy and policies.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define key business requirements.
  • Provide technical expertise and recommendations for data policy implementation and engineering controls.
  • Ensure alignment of data engineering practices with the overall data strategy.
  • Mentor and guide junior data engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.

Who You Are:

  • Bachelor's or masters degree in engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience (BS), 6+ years (MS) in data engineering or similar role.
  • Strong proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or Scala.
  • Expertise and production deployment experience in the AWS and GCP ecosystems.
  • Experience with data warehousing, ELT processes, and data modeling.
  • Familiarity with data cataloguing tools and best practices.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.

The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and length of experience within the job, type and length of experience within the industry, education, etc. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units. Veracyte is a multi-state employer, and this salary range may not reflect positions that work in other states.

$182,000—$207,000 USD
