Research Ophthalmic Technician



University of Pittsburgh, Ophthalmology Department is searching for a Research Opthalmic Technician to work in the Bryan Jones lab.

Qualification of candidate: HS degree and Extensive experience in the operation and maintenance of transmission electron microscopes.


Job Summary

Performs clinical and administrative duties as required by various clinical trial protocols and studies in ophthalmic diseases. Maintains patient charts and data, conducts ophthalmic imaging and clinical evaluations on study participants, performs data entry, coordinates and schedules appointments, and maintain clinical research records. Catalogues and ships clinical specimens and prepares images and data from imaging devices. Trains new study coordinators and maintains clinical study equipment.


Essential Functions

Performs administrative duties for research protocols.

Maintains research records, performs accurate data entry, coordinates and schedules data capture.

Conducts imaging using transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and performs other associated research procedures involving image and data collection.

Evaluates histological tissues, performs histological handling and staining.

Trains personnel on tissue handling and image capture.

Maintains TEM equipment; performs maintenance as necessary.


Physical Effort

Ability to operate transmission electron microscopes, fine motor control for handling electron microscope grids.
