JOB DESCRIPTION
This individual is expected to possess the ability to lead projects of varying levels of complexity with little to no supervision. This individual will be provided with ample opportunities to demonstrate the development of technical expertise while providing support to internal and external customers. The individual will also have opportunities to demonstrate leadership on product development and commercialization teams while providing support to manufacturing, marketing, and quality teams.
This position is also eligible for bonus based on performance and subject to the terms of the Company’s applicable plans.

RESPONSIBILITIES
• Formulation of anodic and cathodic electrocoating’s.
• Characterization of coatings and polymer systems.
• Application of experimental coatings by electrodeposition.
• Lead development projects using Design for Six Sigma tools (DOE’s) for three and five stage projects.
• Support manufacturing sites during the scale up process of new coatings and polymer systems.
• Communicates with manager, manufacturing, applications and various business partners to ensure the successful commercialization of products.
• Establishes timelines and resources needed with minimal changes and input from managers with the ability to alter project scope or to propose changes based on feedback.
• Adhere to company safety guidelines at all times.
• Mentor lesser experienced chemists in the laboratory.
• Ability to become a subject matter expert for:
o Solvent-based or water-based liquid technologies
o Powder coatings technologies
o Coating formulation and raw materials within coatings
• Utilizes internal networks in other functional areas (Manufacturing, Quality, Product Management etc)
• Work with Commercial Project Managers to develop innovative project proposals and R&D programs
• Independently lead projects with little manager direction.
• Clearly and concisely communicate to diverse audiences including internal and external customers
• Influences others to support an idea/plan and considers the potential impact of the business
• Assists in or recommends staffing for projects
• Provides team support by encouraging collaboration and providing suggestions/resources to overcome obstacles.
QUALIFICATIONS
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
• Must be legally authorized to work in the country for which you are applying for employment (without now or in the future needing sponsorship for employment work visa and/or permanent residence status).
• Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math field.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Minimum 5 years chemist level experience, at least 3 of those in water-based technologies.
• Experience leading/managing projects.
• Familiarity with polymer structure property relationships.
• Proficient with analytical methods for characterization of coatings and coating defects.
• Has demonstrated the successful scale up and commercialization of coating or polymer systems.
• Experience with project management skills
• Computer knowledge for basic inputting, communication, and data analysis
• Design of Experiment
• Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Power Point)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Master’s Degree or higher in Chemistry or Coating Science.
• 8 years of industrial coatings formulation
• 3-5 years of electrocoat experience or various water-based technologies
• Application and formulation of effects coatings
• Experience with Statistical analysis.
• Ability to color match visually and with the assistance of color equipment.
• Liquid and powder spray systems utilizing robotic equipment
• Experience with electrocoat or water-based polymer synthesis.
Travel Requirements: 30%
