Located in Greater Boston, MassBay is a comprehensive, open-access community college offering associate degrees and certificate programs on three campuses in Wellesley Hills, Framingham, and Ashland, Massachusetts.

Position Summary:

The ideal candidate will join a vibrant and inclusive educational community,and have a desire and ability to work with a diverse population. This is apart-time, non-unit position with no benefits.

MassBay Community College is seeking a dedicated and motivated GraduateAssistant to support academic advising, coaching and transfer, including butnot limited to retention outreach and transfer services. This position provides an excellentopportunity for a graduate student interested in higher education, studentaffairs, or academic advising to gain hands-on experience in a communitycollege setting. The Graduate Assistantwill work closely with students, advisors, and faculty to enhance studentretention, engagement, and academic success.

This position offer hands-on experience in academic advising and studentretention strategies, as well as professional development opportunities,including training and mentorships. Scheduling is flexible to accommodate graduate coursework.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with academic advising sessions by providing students with information about self-service tools and college other college resources;

  • Support retention initiatives by tracking student progress, conducting outreach, and identifying students in need of support;

  • Facilitate workshops and presentations on topics such as study skills, time management, and academic success strategies;

  • Maintain accurate records of student interactions and assist in generating reports to assess student progress and program effectiveness;

  • Conduct proactive outreach through phone calls, emails, texts and meetings to encourage student engagement and persistence;

  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to connect students with appropriate campus resources, such as tutoring, financial aid, and counseling services;

  • Assist with event planning for academic advising and retention programs, including new student orientation and advising fairs;

  • Perform administrative duties related to advising and retention, such as scheduling appointments, maintaining databases, and preparing materials.

  • Engage in conversations with colleagues and students regarding best practices within the discipline or programmatic related to equity and inclusion.

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be currently enrolled in a graduate program in higher education, student affairs, counseling, social work, or a related field;

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage and support diverse student populations;

  • Experience in student services, academic advising, or a related field is preferred;

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment;

  • Commitmentto student success, equity, and inclusivity in higher education.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Sensitivity and commitment to the goals of Affirmative Action and workforce diversity;

  • Experience working in a diverse environment;

  • Demonstrates commitment to working with underserved students;

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with student information systems (e.g., PeopleSoft, Banner, Navigate).

Additional Information:

Salary Range: $19 to $20 per hour

Classification: Part-time, Non-Unit
