Purpose:
The Buyer locates, negotiates, and purchases materials and services and provides support to the Purchasing Manager. This position requires extensive research and the ability to negotiate contracts with suppliers, manage an inventory, and evaluate supplier performance.
Job Functions/Accountabilities:
- Build relationships and qualify suppliers to provide sources of materials and services by requesting quotations and bids. Lead the negotiation of contracts to obtain the lowest possible total end-use cost, with high emphasis on safety, service, quality, and delivery. Ensure that ZEON’s interests are protected.
- Initiate purchase orders for assigned plant(s). Negotiate pricing, arrange for samples as required. Coordinate closely with both internal and external customers to ensure timely execution of sourcing activities.
- Liaison between internal and external customers to resolve any issues arising from purchase of service, supply, equipment, or execution of contract. Proactively follow up on past due deliveries and promptly notify requisitioners of any delays.
- Update contract workflow as new agreements are negotiated, and expiring agreements reach term or are extended.
- Examine all avenues for cost savings opportunities in a diligent and pro-active manner. Monitor market prices and trends (including company usage) and alert responsible cost center managers to such trends.
- Responsible to ensure inventory levels of MRO items are optimized to support Operational needs meet financial objectives by keeping inventory levels to optimized levels.
- Provide schedule and oversee timely completion of annual cycle counts and obsolescence review.
- Collaborate with stakeholders and interested parties to assure that ZEON is serviced on a timely and accurate basis. Maintain effective and professional relationships with all stakeholders.
- Work closely with requisitioners to assure products we are purchasing, or services being provided successfully meet needs and requirements.
- Understand internal customers’ needs in order to continually improve processes to drive greater efficiency and enhanced service while maintaining the best cost.
- Liaison between Accounting and Requisitioner to ensure appropriate approvals are obtained, financial authorities are adhered to, and proper accounts are charged before processing purchase requisitions. Additionally, function as a control point for Accounting to reconcile invoices as needed.
- Oversee and approve blanket (framework and annual service purchase orders). Regularly review these purchase orders to ensure that suppliers are performing and billing as agreed.
- Participate on various committees as assigned by Purchasing Manager.
- Demonstrate proficiency in all Microsoft applications to utilize technology for analytical purposes and continuous improvement.
- Continuously seek ways to improve performance of our operations and ensure that customers’ (both internal and external) needs are met.
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
- Always adhere to the quality system.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by Purchasing Manager.
Qualifications:
Education and Certifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business or related field required.
- Experience in lieu of degree may be considered.
- Certified Professional in Supply Management Certification from Institute of Supply Management or equivalent preferred.
Experience:
- 3+ years of Purchasing experience required.
- SAP experience a plus.
