JOB SUMMARY

The Security Supervisor position at the Albany Nanotech Complex (a 24/7 operation) provides supervision of communications, security patrol, and access control in maintenance of safety and security.

Job responsibilities include but are not limited to ensure that security patrol and communication functions are performed in maintenance of site security and safety. The Security Supervisor performs a liaison function between the Assistant Director of Security and Director of Security and Security Officer's. The Security Supervisor monitors operation of computerized security and life-safety systems and electronic alarms to include fire, life-safety, gas alarms, building management, access control systems and camera security systems.

The Security Supervisor ensures the effective notification of fire, police, and/or related public safety agencies. They are to coordinate emergency and business-related telephone, radio, and pager communication. Ensure for the documentation of incidents, ensure for appropriate visitor services to include entry processing, ensure that facility exterior and interior security patrols are conducted, responds to facility incidents as a supervisor using defined policy and procedure, and ensure for parking enforcement and special event support. This Security Supervisor is required to:

  • Display consistent and strong people skills, including teamwork and possess excellent communication skills.
  • Use position to improve employee performance through coaching, discipline, planning, evaluations, employee development, and positive reinforcement.
  • Delegate/assign operational tasks and inspect for completion.
  • Actively demonstrate appropriate leadership skills, lead by example.
  • Possess effective management skills to include time management, conflict resolution, and provide recommendations for modification of department policies and procedures.
  • Possess computer skills enabling use of business and security programs (i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, and security technology to include access control and camera systems).
  • Possess knowledge of emergency procedures and operations management, specifically Incident Command System (ICS).
  • Ensure that there is appropriate shift coverage and work with scheduler to ensure. Maintain schedule flexibility.

Job Requirements:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

The successful candidate is a fully competent security officer experienced in all aspects of the assignment and capable of independent and group functioning.

  • Be at least 21 years of age with provisions that the candidate must be able to perform the duties of the position.
  • Possess, or be capable of possessing and maintaining, a current New York State security officer certification/license and a New York State vehicle operator's license.
  • Possess four years of satisfactory service as a security officer, law enforcement/peace officer, or military service.
  • Demonstrate an ability to read, write and speak English. Possess excellent communication skills, verbal and written.
  • Demonstrate an ability to operate computer technology and software specific to security systems, radio system and typical office equipment.
  • Possess excellent people skills/customer focus and a commitment to teamwork, an ability to manage and prioritize multiple assignments, demonstrate initiative and be adaptable to change.
  • Capable of correctly interpreting policies and procedures, and in providing guidance/training to Security Officers.
  • Capable of walking, running, standing, climbing, reaching, sitting, bending, and pushing/pulling, completing repetitive motions, capable of lifting 50 lbs.
  • Be capable of working in adverse weather conditions; endure heat, cold, noise exposure.

The successful candidate will provide leadership, oversight and direction to direct reports to assure goals, programs, activities, and personnel practices are consistent with and contribute to organizational goals and strategies. Design and implement operating strategies, plans and procedures to assure smooth functioning of the NY CREATES Security Department. Lead employees for maximum performance and dedication. Complete performance management feedback and goals per requirements.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Computer skills including software specific to security and communication systems.
  • Familiarity with cleanroom facility operations and technical applications such as TGMS alarms.
  • Associates degree or two years of pertinent job-related supervisory or military experience.

Salary Range: $33/ hour

*Posted salary ranges are determined upon experience and education.
