Biorepository Technician III
Performs a variety of independent laboratory work and experiments such as determining experimental protocols and preparation of specimens and cultures. Prepares reports of findings subsequent to compilation and analyzation. Oversees specimen inventory. Develops documentation for publication; crafts manuscripts and grant proposals.
The Department of Neurological Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh is hiring a Biorepository Technician III.
This position will support the daily operations of the fast-paced, high-impact Neurotrauma Clinical Trials Center laboratory and the National Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Biorepository.
Key responsibilities include: collecting, processing, and storing participant samples while ensuring proper handling, labeling, and documentation to maintain sample integrity and comply with all regulatory and study protocols. Using a specialized database to receive, log, and store frozen sample shipments from multiple studies. Retrieving samples according to research requests and study protocols. Preparing samples for shipment to other facilities, coordinating with couriers, and ensuring accurate documentation for all incoming and outgoing specimens. Performing quality control checks on equipment and specimens to ensure adherence to established standards and sample integrity. This position requires participation in on-call rotations.
Essential qualifications:
• High attention to detail, commitment to safety, and adherence to good laboratory practices.
• Experience in phlebotomy is desirable.
• Database management skills are preferred.
Minimum education to be considered for this position is a bachelor’s degree in a related field.
