At NAS Oceana located at Virginia Beach, VA, SA-TECH supports the Navy Integrated Training Environment (NITE) that covers the development, integration, management and support of an integrated program to enable a continuous, multi-domain, Live, Virtual and Constructive (LVC) training platform across multiple physical training locations. Together with our partners, SA-TECH is helping integrate the Navy Combined Tactical Training Range (NCTTR) and the Southern California Offshore Range (SCORE) into the Navy Continuous Training Environment (NCTE) environment.
SA-TECH is currently looking to hire a Network Administrator II at NAS Oceana (Virginia Beach, VA) to provide network operations support and analysis of the Navy’s Combined Tactical Training Network. This position reports to the Information Technology Manager.
Specific duties include (but are not limited to):
- As part of a geographically dispersed team, responsible for the management of a classified and unclassified DoD network and related computer systems.
- Troubleshoot networks, systems, and applications to identify and correct malfunctions, operational difficulties, and remediate vulnerabilities.
- Support integrated communications operations and maintenance tasks to include monitoring data communications network and resolving problems, monitoring hub activity and performing diagnostics.
- Provide operation and maintenance of hardware and software with minimal supervision in accordance with overall objectives and requirements of the Combined Tactical Training Ranges.
- Document maintenance actions in IEMS.
- Maintain up-to-date equipment and software inventories, and up-to-date network drawings.
- Support the development and review of approved procedures and update work instructions accordingly. Explain user procedures for system operation and maintenance. Create and deliver training for users and management.
- Assist the Information Technology Manager by assuring patches, upgrades and security issues are maintained to all current Department of Defense (DoD) and Department of Navy (DoN) directives.
- Support the Computer Systems Analyst to determine limitations of existing systems and perform duties as alternate Systems Administrator.
- Attend government meetings as required to report on and resolve range Wide Area Network (WAN) and Local Area Network (LAN) data communication problems.
- Identify areas of operation which need upgraded equipment.
- Research, test, evaluate, and recommend data communications hardware and software.
- Participate in an on-call rotation (outside normal working hours or weekends) to supporting the Network Infrastructure in case of critical outages.
- Continuously develop and maintain a safe work environment and, as appropriate, complete all training requirements and fulfill all self-aid/buddy aid responsibilities, participate in emergency response tasks and serve on safety committees and teams.
- Conform to the NITE Quality Policy and carry out job activities in compliance with applicable NITE Quality System documents and customer contracts.
- Read and understand Quality Management and Customer Satisfaction responsibilities.
- Read, understand and implement the general and specific operational, safety, quality and environmental requirements of all plans, procedures and policies pertaining to the job.
Work Conditions/Physical Requirements:
- Typical office environment with no unusual hazards, occasional lifting to 20 pounds.
- Constant sitting while using the computer terminal, constant use of sight abilities while reviewing documents, constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, constant mental alertness.
- Must possess planning/organizing skills and must be able to work under deadlines.
- Routine travel to remote site facilities may be involved.
Requirements:
Education/Experience/Skills
- Requires Bachelor’s degree in an Information Technology related discipline (Information Technology, Computer Science, Information System Management, or related field) and two (2) years of IT/IA experience or at least four (4) years of a combination of IT Training, IT Certifications and progressively relevant work experience in the areas of:
- System/Network Administration
- Information Technology Management
- Information System Security Current
- Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in the following areas:
- Deployment/Maintenance of IT networks consisting of computer systems and network servers, network interfaces and associated equipment
- LAN level Network Administration of Layer 3 Routers, Switches, VLAN Configuration, Wireless Bridges
- Installation and monitoring of network and host-based IDS and firewalls such as Cisco PIX\ASA firewalls, HBSS, Snort or other similar technologies
- Configuring systems to Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) standards including Windows and Linux Servers and Workstations
- Installation, maintenance and administration of information systems to include Windows and Linux desktops and servers
- Communications (fiber-optic, multiplexer) equipment
- Backups and Disaster Recovery systems
- Must maintain DoD 8570.1 certification requirements for IAT-II.
- Requires documented training in one of the following areas: network infrastructure (Cisco), Microsoft Windows, Linux OS.
- Required to comply with the DON Cyber IT/CSWF Program requirements of SECNAV M-5239.2, which include:
- Earn and maintain appropriate credentials from the Cyber IT/CSWF Qualification Matrix (described in SECNAV M-5239.2) associated with the specialty area and level commensurate with the scope of major assigned duties for the assigned position.
- Participate in a continuous learning program as described in SECNAVINST 1543.2.
- A minimum of 40 hours of Cyber IT/CSWF related continuous learning annually documented in a current individual development plan signed by both the employee and supervisor.
- Desired skills/experience:
- Documented formal training in Cisco-systems to at least the Cisco Certified Entry Networking Technician (CCENT) level
- Possession of excellent customer service and organization skills
- Possession of excellent oral and written communication skills
- Driver’s License required; must be able to be insured through company’s vehicle insurance policy while driving work/government/rental vehicles during working hours, and for the duration of employment.
- U.S. Citizenship required and you must be able to obtain a U.S. DoD Secret Security Clearance prior to hire date and maintain a Secret clearance throughout employment.
- All candidates will be required to pass background screening to include SSN, Driver Record, and Criminal Background Investigation.
