Description

RMC is hiring a Senior AIX Systems Engineer to support services we provide to the Enterprise Systems (ES) Department of the Naval Information Warfare Center (NIWC) Atlantic Service Centers in Charleston, SC. This support will be primarily for the Data Center and Cloud Hosting Services (DC2HS) Division. As a Senior AIX Systems Engineer, you will manage complex IT infrastructures for critical Department of the Navy systems. RMC is seeking a seasoned Senior AIX Systems Engineer with deep expertise in IBM AIX, PowerVM virtualization, and Hardware Management Console (HMC) version 10. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience managing virtualized environments on IBM Power Systems, ensuring high availability, performance optimization, and secure operations of enterprise infrastructure. You will implement and maintain rigorous security protocols in accordance with DoD standards, automate system administration tasks, and collaborate with various stakeholders to ensure the reliability and performance of these mission-critical systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, and support IBM AIX environments on Power Systems using PowerVM and HMC 10.
  • Administer LPARs, VIOS, NPIV configurations, and perform firmware updates and patch management.
  • Manage system resources, including CPU, memory, and virtual I/O, to optimize performance and scalability.
  • Utilize HMC 10 for lifecycle management of Power Systems hardware and virtualization environments.
  • Develop and maintain shell scripts for automation of system tasks and operational efficiencies.
  • Monitor system health, respond to alerts, and resolve incidents and performance issues.
  • Work closely with application, storage, and network teams to ensure seamless integration and support.
  • Maintain system documentation, configurations, and change management records.
  • Participate in disaster recovery planning and testing.
  • Provide off-hours support as needed for maintenance and critical incidents.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of hands-on experience with IBM AIX (v7.x preferred) administration.
  • Strong expertise in IBM PowerVM virtualization, including LPAR/VIOS setup and management.
  • In-depth experience with Hardware Management Console (HMC) version 10.
  • Familiarity with IBM Power9/Power10 hardware architecture and lifecycle management.
  • Proficiency in shell scripting (KSH, Bash, or Perl).
  • Strong troubleshooting and performance tuning skills.
  • Knowledge of SAN/NAS storage and NPIV zoning in virtualized environments.
  • Experience in high-availability and disaster recovery configurations.
  • IBM Certified Advanced Technical Expert – Power Systems with AIX.
  • Experience with Ansible or other automation/configuration management tools.
  • Familiarity with ITIL processes and enterprise change management practices.
  • Exposure to Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) on Power is a plus.
  • An Active DOD Secret Security Clearance is required to start.

Salary at RMC is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, a candidate's specific combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific requirements. The current salary range for this position will be $86,000 to $153,000 (annually).
