Position Title: Engineering Spclst 1/2-Substation

Location: Storm Lake, IA, United States

Description:
This is a multi-level posting.

Provides technical work in the detailed estimating, project management, designing, materials procurement and construction of substation additions to MidAmerican Energy Company's energy delivery system. Applies complex engineering principles and practices in the following areas: designing new substation facilities; preparing specifications, drawings and contracts; materials procurement and providing detailed technical assistance to other areas within MidAmerican. Also provides project management for all phases of substation project additions to MidAmerican Energy Company's energy delivery system, including estimating, scheduling, materials procurement, resource management and coordination, project construction and commissioning, cost tracking, cost projections and safety. Performs more difficult substation engineering design and project management work that involves a variety of complex features such as conflicting design requirements, use of unconventional materials and coordination difficulty. Has full responsibility for projects assigned.

Responsibilities:
Provides complex engineering services for the planning, design and construction of new substation facilities and project additions to MidAmerican's energy delivery system. Complex engineering services may include; resolving conflicting design requirements, use of unconventional materials and coordination difficulty. (45%)

Provides technical project management on larger scope projects for all phases of work including scheduling, design, estimates, engineering specifications, drawings, construction contracts, cost tracking, project cost projections and safety. (45%)

Conducts complex technical studies and investigations and prepares oral and written reports. (5%)

Provides technical assistance to other departments. (5%)

Provides technical leadership to staff. Serve as trainer or technical expert in one or more technical areas. Performs additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.

Demonstration of knowledge and understanding of human performance improvement techniques.

Qualifications:
This is a multi-level posting.

Bachelor's degree in engineering or related technical field or equivalent work experience. (Typically six years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a bachelor's degree.)

Three years related work experience; five years related work experience for the Specialist 2 role.

Effective oral and written communication skills.

Effective analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.

Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
