A postdoctoral position in molecular pharmacology is immediately available in the laboratory of Dr. Schopfer at the University of Pittsburgh. The funded project will focus on the biochemistry and biology of lipid nitration using novel techniques at the forefront of biochemistry and physiology. The lab’s current projects focus on analytical determinations and mass spectrometric findings in the area of lipid nitration biology. The long-term goal is to apply multiple disciplinary approaches, including organic chemistry, mass spectrometry, biochemistry, metabolic studies, and animal models, to mechanistically address key biological processes. The project aims to identify metabolic targets and predictive biomarkers of inflammatory diseases, as well as develop pharmacological approaches to treat inflammatory and metabolic diseases, particularly in the context of skin diseases and psoriasis.

Necessary research knowledge and skills include knowledge in molecular biology, bioactive lipids, biochemical regulation of metabolism, PCR, western blots, and imaging. Prior experience using mice, human cell culture and human fibroblast cells is ideal. Additionally, candidates should possess outstanding critical thinking and problem-solving skills, as well as excellent written and oral communication skills. Salary is commensurate with experience and based on current NIH guidelines.
