Requisition ID: 1940
Salary Range: $150,000.00 To $250,000.00 Annually

nou Systems, Inc. (nSI) is now officially a 100% ESOP company! We value teamwork and collaboration, and this transition allows us to take that commitment to a new level. nSI empowers our customers by supplying products, services, and expertise with powerful, data driven insights that transform defense systems and improve capabilities.

nou Systems, Inc. (nSI) is here to build systems that solve our nation's most challenging defense problems in an enjoyable, stimulating environment. We're looking for talented builders with high levels of curiosity and extremely strong grounding in fundamentals and engineering first principles. If you're hungry for harder problems, used to working quickly, and excited to take innovative systems from napkin to the field, this is your happy place.

We are pleased to announce the opening for a Senior Mission Modeling Engineer who will join our elite R&D team in Huntsville, Alabama building transformative low cost interceptors for emerging DoD applications. nSI is known for fielding revolutionary missile defense systems, pioneering step changes in RF seeker technology, introducing principled AI systems, and rapidly pioneering novel defense platforms, from space to the seabed. We're small and agile, and ready to disrupt the status quo.

Responsibilities:

Our small team has developed a game-changing interferometric RF seeker technology which has significant implications for making low-complexity, low-cost, high-performance interceptors for combating raids of asymmetric threats. Our seeker approach is patented, tested, funded by multiple customers, and in high demand for emerging threats.

You will be an integral part of a team developing a best-in-class interceptor around this seeker as our mission/systems engineering lead. Starting from your strong grounding in mission threads and modeling first principles, you'll architect comprehensive mission models, analyze system effectiveness across diverse threat scenarios, and bridge the gap between warfighter needs and engineering solutions for highly maneuverable, small diameter (120 mm and lower) surface-to-air interceptor designs. You will develop high-fidelity simulations of the complete kill chain, model system performance against representative threat sets, evaluate tactics and employment concepts, and provide critical insights that push the boundaries of what's achievable at low-cost in contested environments against stressing threats. Your work will span the full mission space - from threat characterization through engagement modeling to operational effectiveness assessment. End-to-end mission modeling, Monte Carlo analysis, threat behavior representation, and operational concept development should be your bread and butter.

You'll interface directly with all engineering disciplines to ensure the system design meets real-world operational requirements. This includes creating mission-level models that capture the complex interactions between our interceptor, the threat environment, and operational constraints, translating warfighter needs into quantifiable engineering requirements, and developing employment concepts that maximize system effectiveness.

As part of our small, elite team, you'll have a high influence on bringing a fast-moving, highly innovative interceptor design through to prototyping, testing, and fielding.

Basic Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree minimum in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or similar technical role
  • Seven years of full-time professional experience between modeling and simulation, mission analysis, and military operations (air defense / missile defense preferred)
  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain an active Secret Security Clearance

Technical Competencies - You must demonstrate expertise in:

  • End-to-end mission modeling and simulation for air/missile defense systems
  • Threat modeling including UAS, cruise missiles, and emerging asymmetric threats
  • Kill chain analysis and probability of kill assessment
  • Monte Carlo simulation and statistical analysis of engagement outcomes
  • Operational employment concepts and tactics development
  • Impact of operational constraints on system design and performance

Core Technical Skills:

  • Deep understanding of air defense operations, threat capabilities, and engagement dynamics
  • Sufficient technical expertise to model sensor performance, weapon kinematics, guidance laws, countermeasures, environmental effects, and command/control timelines (or interface effectively with experts in those areas)
  • Proficiency in rapid development, execution, analysis, and visualization of mission-level simulations from first principles
  • Demonstrated ability to translate operational experience into quantitative engineering requirements
  • Strong simulation and mathematics background
  • Experience with guidance in complex, cluttered scenarios

Software & Tools:

  • MATLAB/Simulink for mission modeling and analysis
  • AFSIM, EADSIM, or similar mission-level simulation tools
  • Python or similar for data analysis and visualization

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Military experience in air defense and/or missile defense
  • Experience with counter-UAS operations and emerging threat analysis
  • Direct experience supporting weapon system development from a mission perspective
  • Knowledge of joint integrated air defense concepts
