Mechanical CAD Drafter - Military veterans preferred

Position Summary

Reporting to the Senior Mechanical Designer, The Drafter/CAD Operator prepares complete and highly detailed sets of engineering drawings or computer models that include multiple views, subassemblies, and precise specifications. These drawings support the design, construction, testing, and maintenance of complex systems, often for Department of Defense (DoD) programs. The position requires advanced drafting skills, and familiarity with technical specifications to visualize and translate engineering concepts into working documentation.

Essential Functions 

• Prepare complete sets of complex engineering drawings and 3D models using AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
• Develop detailed drawings for parts and assemblies from models, red lines, sketches, and verbal input provided by engineers and designers.
• Creating drawings for cables and cable assemblies using diagrams provided by engineers.
• Creating plumbing assembly drawings from models provided by engineers.
• Select and extract data from CAD libraries, technical manuals, manufacturer catalogs, and online databases to support project documentation.
• Independently resolve drafting issues and coordinating with project leads to address complex or conflicting design elements.
• Ensure that all drawings conform to applicable standards, drafting conventions, and established engineering practices and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing per ASME Y14.5.
• Make changes to Solidworks assemblies, parts and drawings or Auto Cad drawings per ECO’s.
• Create or update BOM’s per ECO’s using an MRP software
• Maintain proper revision control using SolidWorks PDM. 

Key Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in drafting/CAD in a government, military, or engineering environment.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, SolidWorks.
• Knowledge of Vantage software is a plus.
• Solid understanding of mechanical principles as applied to drafting.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and design standards.
• Ability to create 3D models from drawings and physical parts.   
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work with minimal supervision.
