Laboratory Research Technician II
Performs a variety of laboratory experiments and procedures. Prepares specimens. Oversees supply management. Operates and properly maintains equipment.
The University of Pittsburgh, Department of Neurological Surgery at the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh is hiring a Laboratory Research Technician II. This position is for a lab research technician to conduct research focused on pediatric brain tumor immunology and to assist with clerical responsibilities. Staff in this position often complete small research projects, including working on experimental design, interpretation of research outcomes, performs assays to support research studies. The Pediatric Neurosurgery ImmunoOncology (PNIO) Laboratory of the Department of Neurosurgery under the directorship of Dr. Kohanbash is seeking a motivated individual who will be involved in the development of novel immunotherapies of patient-based malignant brain tumors both in cell culture and in rodent models. This individual will interact daily with the laboratory researchers, departmental personnel, allied health professionals, collaborating researchers and graduate and undergraduate students in our department as well as other departments. More specifically the responsibilities/duties of this role will be the following: 1. Collection, analysis, and storage of mouse samples, including routine processing of these samples. 2. Performance of experimental surgeries on rodents, administration of drug therapies, evaluation of tumor size and preparation tumor cells for therapy models. 3. Assistance with laboratory protocol submission, laboratory safety, as well as database maintenance. 4. Ordering of reagents and supplies and filing reports. 5. Other duties as assigned. The ideal candidate will be interested in the mission of the lab, driven to learn, a team player, and show willingness to assist in the lab operation.
Minimum education to be considered for this position is a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
