Job Title: Technical Writer

Location: Arlington, VA

Workplace: Hybrid (all candidate must be located in the DMV based on in person customer needs 1-2 times per week

Clearance Required: Active Public Trust

Position Overview:

We are seeking a versatile and experienced Technical Writer to support multiple federal programs with documentation needs across data science, artificial intelligence/machine learning (AI/ML), cybersecurity, and analytics initiatives. This individual will be responsible for creating, editing, and maintaining a wide range of technical content, tailored to different government client environments and audiences. The successful candidate will be customer-facing, skilled at translating complex technical concepts into clear, accessible documentation, and experienced in working within fast-paced, mission-driven teams.

Position Requirements:

  • Collaborate with data scientists, engineers, product owners, and federal clients to develop and maintain a variety of technical documents, including:
    • Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
    • User Manuals and Guides
    • Technical Specifications
    • Reports and White Papers
    • System Documentation
    • Policy and Compliance Documents
    • Training Materials
  • Interview subject matter experts (SMEs), product teams, and end-users to gather and clarify information
  • Support the development of agile documentation frameworks for iterative updates
  • Ensure documentation is clear, concise, and tailored to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Translate technical jargon and analytical concepts (e.g., AI/ML models, data pipelines) into readable content for executives, analysts, and IT staff
  • Adhere to federal documentation standards and guidelines for quality, consistency, and compliance
  • Assist in requirements gathering and business analysis activities when needed
  • Organize and maintain document repositories and version control

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field
  • 6–10 years of technical writing experience in the U.S. federal sector
  • Demonstrated experience working directly with government customers and end-users
  • Must have an active Public Trust and be eligible for a Top Secret (TS) clearance
  • Strong understanding of documentation standards in regulated and security-conscious environments
  • Familiarity with data science, AI/ML, or advanced analytics programs
  • Ability to quickly learn and document emerging technologies, tools, and platforms
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to quality and clarity

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

  • Experience working in federal programs focused on cybersecurity, fraud analytics, or intelligence
  • Prior experience supporting data science or AI/ML teams in a documentation or business analyst capacity
  • Experience with Agile/Scrum teams and tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence)
  • Proficiency with documentation and collaboration tools (e.g., MS Office, Adobe Acrobat, SharePoint, Visio)
  • Background in business analysis, particularly in translating stakeholder needs into functional documentation or user stories
