GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
Underwriters deliver outstanding service to both internal and external clients. A key element of this service internally includes being a source of reference to the entire Consumer Lending Department. A key external element ensures that each employee identifies the members' financial needs and suggests the proper Credit Union solutions. This role establishes and maintains a positive working relationship with our indirect dealer partners to support Arkansas Federal Credit Union's lending policies. Provide exceptional service to every member or dealer partner, every time. Exceptional service consists of immediate quality credit decisions based on Arkansas Federal Credit Union's philosophy and underwriting guidelines. Underwriters balance the risk and reward of credit decisions to minimize the liability to the Credit Union. This directly impacts the overall financial performance of the consumer and indirect loan portfolios.
ResponsibilitiesESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Underwriting direct and indirect consumer loans.
- Maintains a high level of member and dealer service ensuring loans are offered to creditworthy applicants.
- Underwrite indirect collateralized auto loans and unsecured merchant (point of sale) loans in a safe and sound manner. Maintain a high level of member service ensuring that loans are given to creditworthy applicants. Make certain that members are offered products and services with the consideration of proper guidelines.
- Establishes and manages relationships with automobile dealers while promoting the utilization of the products available through Arkansas Federal Credit Union's indirect programs to obtain forecasted loan origination and revenue goals. Dealers will initiate contact at various hours (including nights, weekends, and holidays) that often require an immediate response to maintain meaningful relationships.
- Required to work many weekends and most Credit Union holidays. (MLK, President's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day and Veteran's Day).
- Assists in the review and revision of the Consumer Loan Department's policies and procedures to make sure of accuracy and compliance.
- Constantly monitors local and nationwide Indirect Lending trends and competitive rates/offerings. Makes recommendations and works with management to modify existing finance programs to ensure competitive posture in the existing marketplace.
- Reviews charge off/delinquency reports to maintain consistency and make better loan decisions.
- Understand, interpret, and adhere to lending regulations, as they pertain to indirect and consumer loans.
- Adhere to consumer loan underwriting policies, procedures and processes to ensure compliance with applicable regulations. Communicate this information to the proper channels.
- Contributes to the department sales and service goals as established by management and the Credit Union. Reviews loan origination and revenue activity reports for all relationships and takes necessary corrective action if ratios or revenues fall below established budgeted forecasts.
- Work to maintain a loan to share ratio, delinquency ratio and charge-off ratio within the guidelines of Arkansas Federal Credit Union.
- Maintain a relationship with the Processing Department to resolve any funding, document, or charge-back issues with dealers.
- Work special sales promotions as required, which will often require working hours that Arkansas Federal Credit Union is typically closed for business.
- Participate in community activities and organizations as a representative of Arkansas Federal Credit Union and maintain current knowledge of the needs of the communities served.
- Underwrite member loans and determine the creditworthiness of applicants within loan exception authority levels established by management and the Credit Union.
- Underwrite employee and Credit Union official's consumer loan applications within established guidelines. Recommend and refer those outside of the guidelines to the Employee Loan Review Committee.
- Provides the Supervisory Committee, Certified Public Accountants and federal examiners with information on Lending procedures and ensures that needed information is available for their use.
- Maintain a professional work environment while providing exceptional service to every dealer or member, every time.
- Ensure an understanding of the Credit Union's history, philosophy, organizations, bylaws, and operation procedures.
- Advise internal and external partners as they assist members having complex or "exceptional" problems requiring special knowledge or authority.
- Contribute to and help with the development or loan training curriculum alongside the Organizational Development team.
- Provide on-site lending training in cooperation with Organizational Development for internal and external partners to ensure retention and maintenance of lending knowledge and application.
- Advises the leadership of the Consumer Lending Department of unusual complaints, calls, and letters received.
- Contributes towards the back-end loan product goals and additional cross-selling opportunities.
- Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
QualificationsQUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school or GED, plus specialized schooling and/or on the job education in a specific skill area; e.g. data processing, clerical/administrative, equipment operation, etc, plus 3 years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
