Reporting to the Dean, Extension School (ES), the Program Director for Trades, Logistics, and Manufacturing performs a wide variety of administrative duties in support of the Program, for both credit and non-credit offerings. Working in collaboration with others in the program, the Program Director, organizes the work of the adjuncts and continuing education instructors, while performing both administrative and instructional duties. In conjunction with the Dean, the Program Director serves as a moderator in student-instructor disputes, and is also responsible for guiding the subject-area instructors and for ensuring that all required record-keeping and reporting are completed in a timely and accurate manner.
Partnership and Client Development
Develop and maintain a coherent and effective curriculum.
Act as a point of leadership for adjuncts and continuing education instructors, deployment, development, and review.
Effectively manage program resources.
Communicate effectively with administrators, faculty, students, and the external community.
Student Recruitment and Program Promotion
Develop and execute strategies to promote the Trades, Logistics, and Manufacturing programs to prospective students, community organizations, and industry partners.
Collaborate with marketing and recruitment staff to create promotional materials and participate in outreach events such as career fairs, open houses, and industry forums.
Establish relationships with local high schools, community colleges, workforce development agencies, and employers to create pipelines for prospective students.
Track and analyze enrollment data to inform recruitment strategies and meet program enrollment targets.
Serve as a visible and active ambassador for the program, representing RWU Extension School in external communications, presentations, and partnerships designed to grow program awareness and student interest.
Operations and Administrative Management
Represent the interests of the Program adjuncts and continuing education instructors to the Dean.
Supervise and approve course schedules and teaching assignments and coordinate other adjuncts and continuing education instructors' responsibilities to the department.
Prepare for submission to the Dean, descriptions of concentrations and courses, and other program-related copy for RWU publications such as catalogs and promotional materials.
Recommend concentration and core requirements to the ES adjuncts and continuing education instructors Curriculum Committee.
Assist in program staffing by exhibiting a leadership role in adjuncts and continuing education instructors and staff searches.
Recruit adjuncts and continuing education instructors. Assign them program courses and activities.
Arrange for program approval, independent studies, including tutorials, research projects, and internships.
Encourage a stimulating intellectual and practice-based climate for students and adjuncts and continuing education instructors through programs such as lectures, salons, the CPC, and other community outreach.
Encourage effective teaching, including the application of online, innovative, and conventional teaching techniques, and perform periodic classroom and online course visits.
Conduct regular and special program meetings as required.
Assist with and organize adjuncts and continuing education instructors and adviser participation in the active recruitment of students.
Review and attest to the quality of instruction, student evaluation methods, and supervision delivered by the faculty.
Work with the ES recruiters to ensure enrollment targets are met: Identify new community and industry-based program partnerships.
Advise students on program requirements while helping to develop academic and career goals.
Evaluate students' academic history and education, including transcript evaluation.
Introduce students to resources available.
Assist students in career exploration.
Support and coordinate retention initiatives established for ES and the University through a variety of activities.
Perform classroom observations, facilitate pre and post-observation discussions, and collaborate with adjuncts and continuing education instructors on development plans.
Additional Functions
Participate in all applicable Extension School meetings.
Facilitate the hiring, scheduling, development, and evaluation of subject-area instructors.
Continually conceptualize and implement training programs that are aligned with employer and market needs.
Assist in integrating writing and communication skills across the curriculum and in developing program-specific activities in Trades, Logistics, and Manufacturing courses.
Master's degree.
Three to five years experience in business or professional education.
Experience in economic development.
Ability to work independently, prioritize work and achievement orientation toward meeting goals.
