Social Worker - MSW



The University of Pittsburgh Department of Emergency Medicine is seeking a Social Worker - MSW to work with the Center for Cardiac Arrest Survival (CCAS) and Post Cardiac Arrest Service (PCAS) including but not limited to:

Community coordination for CPR initiatives including assistance with obtaining and recording background checks for community and verified responders of the PulsePoint program.

Community intervention and analysis of CPR initiatives.

Care coordination for pre- and post-discharge cardiac arrest patients.

Family and Caregiver counseling and support to co-survivors of cardiac arrest.

Screening and assessment of post cardiac arrest clinical needs.

Recruitment and enrollment in post cardiac arrest research studies.


Job Summary

Performs psychosocial and neuropsychological assessments of patients and families as well as project-directed qualitative interviews; presents assessment findings. Provides referrals for patients, screens individuals for research registry eligibility, develops research project materials, and provides crisis intervention counseling. Serves as a resource and assists in obtaining research grants and funding.

Compassionate, patient-centered approach with a strong commitment to patient care.

Interest in disseminating gained knowledge nationally/internationally to the community of cardiac arrest health care professionals.


Physical Effort

Ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time and lift 15 pounds.

Must be able to stand and/or sit for extended periods of time and carry/lift up to 15 lbs.
