Position Summary:

The Computer Support Specialist is responsible for a wide range of activities related to computer support, including the implementation, maintenance, and utilization of microcomputer and mainframe systems. A responsibility of this role is to serve as a liaison for Microsoft Intune deployment and management from the hardware services side, ensuring close coordination with the Systems and Security teams as part of the university's endpoint management strategy. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Serves as a liaison between Information and Technology Services and functional areas on campus
  • Provides departmental support for a variety of technology needs
  • Serves as a liaison of Microsoft Intune for university-owned devices from the hardware services side, working directly with Systems and Security teams
  • Coordinates hardware-side configuration, imaging, enrollment, and support processes for devices managed through Intune
  • Must have the ability to work on Apple computers
  • Troubleshoots technology equipment, including computers, interactive whiteboards, projectors, and other classroom/lab media
  • Educates department staff on software and hardware usage
  • Communicates technical issues between departments and ITS, ensuring timely problem resolution and consistent communication
  • Installs software updates and coordinates with developers or manufacturers to resolve issues; may analyze computer-generated outputs to diagnose and address errors
  • Recommends system improvements, updates in documentation, and training enhancements based on user feedback and technical assessments
  • Other duties as assigned


Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Knowledge of the limitations and use of mainframe and microcomputer hardware and software

Ability to analyze computer system problems or errors and devise corrective meA-Stateres, write moderately complex applications to fulfill requirements or select appropriate off-the-shelf software and modify to suit the agency or institution, read and interpret technical literature and evaluate product acceptability and/or quality, manage disk space for micro, mini, or personal computer systems to ensure effective utilization of data, space, and equipment, and code, test, and debug computer programs and write program documentation

General Days/Hours:

Monday - Friday
8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Additional hours as requested and/or needed
Regular and reliable attendance

Reports to ITS for 20% of time; reports to various locations on campus for 80% of time.

Provides department-level technical service assistance

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal education equivalent of an earned Bachelor's Degree in computer science, computer applications, mathematics, or a related field

Two (2) years of experience in computer support

OR

Completion of technical training in computer science, data processing, or a related field acquired from a vocational, military, or industrial setting plus four years experience in computer support plus one year of supervisory experience

Other job related education and/or experience may be substituted for all or part of these basic requirements, except for certification or licensure requirements, upon approval of the qualifications review committee
