Title: Coordinator/Advisor, Adult Learning Center

General Summary: The Program Coordinator / Advisor of the Adult Learning Center (ALC) serves as a student advisor and helps students navigate their academic and career paths by providing guidance, support, and resources. The Coordinator works with a diverse student body (wide variety of ages, backgrounds, cultures, abilities and levels of motivation). The ALC is seeking a Coordinator/Advisor who will collaborate closely with the entire ALC team - Program Director, Assistant Director, Administrative Assistant and all instructors in order to maintain a positive work and learning environment for all employees and students.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Leads the student recruitment, registration, testing, and placement process with support from other staff members
  • Works in collaboration with the Director in the recruitment and building of local community partnerships
  • Responds in a timely manner to all prospective student inquires
  • Administers and analyzes placement tests (TABE) to assure students are assigned to classes at the appropriate level
  • Administers and tracks Massachusetts Adult Proficiency Tests (MAPT), pre and post, in strict compliance with DESE standards
  • Maintains confidential student records and files per MCC and DESE regulations
  • Works very closely with all GED / HiSET candidates and starts this relationship during registration; informing students of all the necessary paperwork, including proper id, and account set ups.
  • Collaborates and communicates with instructors regarding students' skill development and readiness to take a practice test, and encourages student follow through.
  • Stays in close contact and encourage them through the entire testing cycle. After testing is completed, follow-up regarding next steps.
  • Provides interventions as needed to students with difficulties adhering to ALC and MCC policies
  • Works in conjunction with the Director in the compilation of data and reports in the DESE data management system (LACES). Also assists with the Desk Review Process
  • Advises students; confirms student eligibility for partner programs (Mass Hire, MRC, DTA, etc.) and provides appropriate referrals to Links, MCC or other potential training programs
  • Participates in training sessions, conferences, workshops or webinars sponsored by MCC, DESE and SABES, etc. for program planning and professional development purposes. Program Director may have specific requirements based on program needs
  • Confers with the Director regularly (daily / weekly) to share updates and assist with planning program activities programmatic changes as appropriate.
  • Performs other duties as assigned


Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Counseling, or closely related field
  • Experience and/or training that includes program management, teaching, counseling, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Excellent computer, organizational, oral and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bilingual skills a plus
  • Understanding of Massachusetts Adult Basic Education Guidelines, CCRSAE and adult learning theory and practice


Additional Information:

This is a part-time non-benefitted MCCC unit professional staff, 18.5 hour per week position. This is a fully grant funded position, the employee will be renewed on an annual yearly basis, provided sufficient grant funding.

Salary: $35.31 per hour in accordance with MCCC part-time wage schedule

Location: Bedford campus

Hours: The employee would work 18.5 hours per week for 48 weeks per year. The schedule will vary from week to week. Typical hours will be from 8:30am to 2:30pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. In order to meet with students from our evening program, there will be some days when the employee will need to switch to an evening schedule 3pm to 9pm.
