Onboard is seeking an Designer/Drafter in Vancouver, WA to support the growing business and growing portfolio of new products being introduced. This is an on-site role.

SCOPE OF OPERATION

The Designer/Draft will report to the VP of Engineering and a delegated Lead within the Engineering Department, and serve on a team of 9 total Engineering resources with daily interactions spanning all functions of the business.


This role will support a range of projects and tasks in the pursuit of the overall strategic objectives of the business. Given that Onboard is a relatively small and dynamic business, the Designer/Drafter will be tasked with a multi-disciplinary workload spanning multiple projects, providing a valuable resource to a variety of teams. The ideal candidate will quickly adapt to challenges, with a high degree of curiosity over multiple technical/manufacturing topics. This individual will have the opportunity to be involved in many parts of the business, and must be internally motivated to add value and gain experience in a short period of time.


MISSION

The role will include concept creation, design, feasibility, testing, and production coordination of various mechanical and electrical assemblies. Assignments will be guided by the engineering staff, with inputs such as overall design intent, materials, and function, but will require the candidate to think independently to identify detailed design and drafting deliverables. The role is closely linked with the manufacturing team and is responsible for supporting sustaining engineering initiatives, requiring fast-paced decision making to address ongoing production needs. The Designer/Drafter will work closely with the rest of the Engineering Department to execute on an aggressive product and technology development roadmap, with specific emphasis on supporting fast turnaround times for drawings and CAD models.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan, conceptualize and create mechanical designs for new products
  • Create, edit, and revise 3D CAD models and assemblies using Solidworks
  • Produce and revise detailed technical drawings for mechanical and electrical parts and assemblies using Solidworks and AutoCAD
  • Support sustaining engineering initiatives, including obsolescence and product/process improvements
  • Support direct interactions with production personnel, vendors, and customers pertaining to design concepts and changes
  • Support configuration management by coordinating released design data and ensuring seamless integration with production processes
  • Write owner's manuals, assembly planning, part specifications, and acceptance test plans
  • Support engineering department with mechanical and electrical test setups
  • Support in-field installations and certification testing
  • Recommend design modifications to solve manufacturing or field issues
  • Support periodic audits by FAA, AS9100, or customer OEMs
Requirements:
  • Associates degree in Mechanical Drafting, Mechanical Design or related field. Coursework toward BS Mechanical Engineerins is also acceptable
  • 3-5yrs experience working as a mechanical designer or drafter
  • Experience working with and designing electro-mechanical mechanisms
  • Expertise with applying GD&T principles to mechanical drawings
  • Expertise with Solidworks
  • Expertise with AutoCAD
  • MS Office
  • Exposure to manufacturing environment, including working within an Enterprise Resource Planning system
  • Ability to use hand tools and machinery
  • Exposure to ISO 9001 or AS9100 quality management systems
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Will be required to interface with internal and external customers on a daily basis

Salary: $31.00-38.00/hr. Onboard's generous benefits package includes medical, dental, vision insurance, 401K with company match, vacation & holiday pay.
